Anti-gravity

Anti-gravity is an idea of creating a place or object that is free from the force of gravity. It does not refer to the lack of weight under gravity experienced in free fall or orbit, or to balancing the force of gravity with some other force, such as electromagnetism or aerodynamic lift. Anti-gravity is a recurring concept in science fiction, particularly in the context of spacecraft propulsion. Examples are the gravity blocking substance "Cavorite" in H. G. Wells' The First Men in the Moon and the Spindizzy machines in James Blish'sCities in Flight.

In Newton's law of universal gravitation, gravity was an external force transmitted by unknown means. In the 20th century, Newton's model was replaced by general relativity where gravity is not a force but the result of the geometry of spacetime. Under general relativity, anti-gravity is impossible except under contrived circumstances.[1][2][3]Quantum physicists have postulated the existence of gravitons, a set of masslesselementary particles that transmit the force, and the possibility of creating or destroying these is unclear.

"Anti-gravity" is often used colloquially to refer to devices that look as if they reverse gravity even though they operate through other means, such as lifters, which fly in the air by moving air with electromagnetic fields.

2016-08-15 10:03:38 The next nearest star to us (other than the Sun) is Proxima Centauri, in the Alpha Centauri star system (still part of our Milky Way galaxy), which is about 40 trillion (40,000,000,000,000) miles away or, using the more convenient unit based on the distance light travels in a year (which is about 9.46 trillion kilometres), 4.24 light years. Sirius A and B, in the Sirius star system, are about 81 trillion (81,000,000,000,000) kilometres or 8.58 light years away.

2016-08-15 10:03:04 Sedna is an icy solar system body that is so distant, it takes 11,400 years to orbit the Sun. It resides roughly 3 times further out from the Sun than Neptune, and is two thirds the size of Pluto. It is one of the most distant objects known in the solar system, and although Sedna is covered in ice, it appears almost as red as Mars

2016-08-15 10:02:30 Every second, the Sun converts about 700 million tons of hydrogen to 695 million tons of helium and 386 billion billion megawatts of energy (see also e=mc2 fact). It's been doing this for about 4.5 billion years and will keep going for another 5 billion years before growing to a red giant and gobbling up the Earth.

2016-08-15 10:02:06 Our nearest major galactic neighbour is the Andromeda Galaxy at 2.5 million light years away, and contains up to one trillion suns. It is heading towards us at a speed of 313,200 miles per hour, when it will eventually collide with our Milky Way Galaxy. It will take Andromeda roughly 3 billion years to get here
