New Featured Artist: BLOOD CODE

The slammin', sometimes saccharine tunes of BLOOD CODE are the latest addition to our Featured Artist line-up!

https://i.ppy.sh/c6e51d0f43e6e0bf81e3ac9bdd50ccaf3ec6c121/68747470733a2f2f6173736574732e7070792e73682f617274697374732f3131352f6865616465722e6a7067

Making waves across the world with his expansive electronic sound, BLOOD CODE is an acclaimed electronic producer with a penchant for punchy tracks with a surprisingly kawaii twist. Don't let the softness fool you though - he's got more musical chops than you'd expect, drawing the notice of big name blogs and labels like Nest HQ, Attack The Music and more. He's also performed at various anime and video game conventions worldwide, such as Anime Expo and PAX Prime.

We've managed to snag a collection of 12 tracks from his body of work for you all to experiment with, and we've even got some intrepid minds from the Mappers' Guild starting things off with a brand new showcase set.

Check out a sample of what's new below:

POP SHOVE-IT FEAT. TOFUKU

Check out this showcase set hosted by Hobbes2 from the Mappers' Guild, featuring difficulties from Gero!

Take Me Home (feat. Wishlyst)

STAGE CLEAR (feat. HEKTI & GrooveCube)

Spicy (feat. MYLK & 2Tone Disco)

Hip Shop (feat. NRMN & GameChops)

You can find all of the above plus a whole bunch more over at BLOOD CODE's Featured Artist listing, nicely pre-timed and ready to go. Why not try your hand at mapping one?

That's all for Saturday's release, but we're excited to see what people come up with! Keep tabs on the latest releases and other news you probably want to know by following the @osugame Twitter, and we'll see you again on Wednesday!

Winter Sports 2020 Fanart Contest

Do you like to draw? Do you like winter sports? If the answer to both of those questions is a firm YES, then you're a prime contestant for our last fanart contest of the year!

https://i.ppy.sh/4ada9958587795f476fc4dd7072e32feb07efa31/68747470733a2f2f6173736574732e7070792e73682f636f6e74657374732f3131342f6865616465722e6a7067

Continuing on with this year's trends of themed fanart contests (and Halloween, of course), we're turning up the heat by challenging all intrepid artists in our community to a new test of their creative skill:

Draw any of the official osu! mascots or community mascots engaged in any form of winter sports, and you could win both fun and glory!

If like me, you're confined to a part of the world where the only white flakes that fall from the sky happen to be ash, never fear - a handy list is here to help you figure out what counts:

* Skiing (in all forms)
* Ice skating (in all forms)
* Sledding (in all forms)
* Tobogganing
* Snowboarding
* Curling
* Most forms of recreational activity with the word 'ice' in front (climbing, racing, fishing, sailing, golf... don't ask)
* ...and anything else that would reasonably be considered as 'winter sports'!

Feeling inspired? Got something in mind to draw? You've got 14 days from the date of this announcement post to put pen to paper and make it reality, following the rules laid out at the bottom of this newspost which you will read, because you are a wonderful person.

A top selection of the winners as voted by the community will make it onto the main menu as our Winter 2020 seasonal backgrounds, and all of said winners will receive 3 months of osu! supporter. The top three entries will also score themselves a profile badge detailing their place made from their own artwork.

Got all that? Great, now get all these rules in you too: Rules* All entries MUST be themed around winter sports and feature at least one official osu!mascot or community mascot. Winter sports generally means sport activities that are generally only done in winter, but we've deliberately left it vague in this case so as not to stifle your artistic liberty.
* All entries MUST be suitable for all-ages viewing. You'd think winter would be the least likely contest to be affected by this sort of thing, but after one entry involving Mocha, ribbons and a Christmas tree, we're not taking any chances. For the record, this means no lewds, no gore, etc.
* SUBMIT ONLY YOUR OWN WORK. REDRAWING AND COMPOSITE WORKS ARE NOT ALLOWED. Don't plagiarize. If you are taking ANYTHING that isn't a brush and redrawing it or reframing it, you're plagiarizing. Mixing a bunch of different people's drawings and backgrounds together is not producing original work.
* ARTIST ATTRIBUTION (names, social media handles, etc) MUST BE LIMITED TO NO MORE THAN THREE LINES TOTAL AND CONFINED TO EITHER THE BOTTOM LEFT OR BOTTOM RIGHT CORNERS OF YOUR ENTRY. Being proud of your work is good, just do it in a reasonably small spot of your work. Please understand that we're not very fond of anything ad-related in osu!, and attribution that is blaring enough can be considered as one.
* Entries MUST meet the resolution requirements for a main-menu piece - namely 2732x1536. THIS IS CHECKED BY A SCRIPT AND ENTRIES THAT DO NOT MATCH THIS REQUIREMENT WILL BE DISCARDED AUTOMATICALLY. This is the #1 reason for entries not making it to voting phase. MAKE SURE YOUR ENTRY MEETS THE EXACT RESOLUTION REQUIREMENTS ABOVE. Check your work after you've exported it and BEFORE you submit it. People have been really good about this during the past few contests, please keep it going!
* Artists should use the custom templates provided (PSD template / PNG template) when composing their piece as a guideline to understand where the osu! cookie will be placed on the main menu and duri[...]

New Featured Artist: glass beach

We're off to new musical shores with our latest addition to the Featured Artist lineup, glass beach!

https://i.ppy.sh/512505095f0b2b633ef85a8ff0d2dc57dfd7eb0d/68747470733a2f2f6173736574732e7070792e73682f617274697374732f3131332f6865616465722e6a7067

Rocking more attitude and personality than groups three times their size, the 4 piece band known as glass beach is one of the most promising bands around lately, if their meteoric rise to fame on Spotify is any indication. Sporting a bombastic, jazzy, theatrical and genre-bending sound, they've drawn acclaim from all across the indie scene for doing what they do.

The avid scorewatchers among us might remember glass beach from a recent play made by Vaxei on quantumvortex's map for bedroom community, well and truly bringing them into the limelight.

We've got a selection of 12 new tracks from them now available (including the track mentioned above, naturally), so if you want to see what all the hype is about, there's never been a better time. Not only that, but the Mappers' Guild is on the case with two new showcase maps to boot!

As an extra special surprise, if you're reading this at roughly 21:00 UTC (aka, when the post was released), the crew from glass beach will be streaming their first forays into osu! live over at their Twitch channel for you to witness in all of their newbie glory. Pop in, meet the minds behind the music and say hello!

That's all for this week, but we'll have another artist for you this coming Wednesday, as usual. Keep tabs on the @osugame Twitter for more news and fun things you'll probably want to know.

See you next week!
