THE BOOK OF RUTH

1. The book of Ruth is the eighth book in the Old Testament, and it has only four chapters.

2. It is the first book of the Bible named after a woman.

3. Ruth had a sister-in-law whose name was Orpah, and a mother-in-law whose name was Naomi (Ruth 1:4, 15; 1:8, 2:18-20).

4. Ruth was first married to Naomi’s son whose name was Mahlon (Ruth 4:10).

5. Ruth was from the country of Moab. That was where Naomi’s son met and married her (Ruth 1:3-4, 22).

6. Ruth wasn’t forced to stay with Naomi after the death of her two sons; she chose to (Ruth 1:16-18).

7. Ruth was a favored lady even though she was a foreigner in another country (Ruth 2:10- 13).

8. According to the Bible, she was also known and referred to as a virtuous woman (Ruth 3:11).

9. Ruth got married to another man after the death of her first husband; his name was Boaz (Ruth 4:13).

10. Ruth is in the direct line of the lineage of Christ. She and Boaz were Obed’s parents, grandparents to Jesse and great-grand parents to King David (Ruth 4:17-22).
