You remember my old “friend” Mercer Law School Dean Cathy Cox | Lin Wood

You remember my old “friend” Mercer Law School Dean Cathy Cox and Mercer University President Bill Underwood. They are both members of the State Bar of Georgia and are very influential with the Georgia Bar.

Five years ago, I agreed to donate $1,000,000 to Mercer Law School to help the law school, my alma mater. I agreed to donate $100,000 per year to the law school for 10 years. So far, I have kept my word and have donated a total of $500,000.

I asked for nothing in return but Underwood wanted my donation to be binding on my estate so he came up with the plan to name a courtroom after me to make the agreement binding. I did not seek any recognition.

I think you know what Dean Cathy Cox said about me, my law practice, and my family in a Zoom call she thought would be done in darkness. I turned the light on when I joined the call without her knowledge. You know the rest of the story.

I offered to settle my defamation claim against Mercer and Cox by simply having my money refunded, my name taken off the courtroom, and Cox issuing a statement that her claims were ill-advised and not true.

I no longer want my name associated with Mercer Law School. The school is not providing proper guidance to its students in my opinion. In my opinion, Cox should be fired.

I could sue Mercer for millions of dollars for defamation but I have no desire to harm the school and I felt my settlement offer was very a generous one. My lawyer’s letter is below.

Do you think I was being fair to Mercer Law School given the slander by Cox?
