Netflix says it has a new most-watched series in Bridgerton — although The Witcher might still have a claim to that throne as well.
The streamer had earlier estimated that 63 million member accounts would check out the Shonda Rhimes-produced period drama over its first 28 days of release. (Netflix counts a view as someone watching at least two minutes of a series or film.)
Now that 28 days have actually passed since the show’s Dec. 25 premiere, however, that projection turned out to be way off: Netflix says 82 million member households have viewed the show, the most since it switched to the two-minute standard in late 2019. It surpasses the prior record of 76 million views in 28 days for The Witcher.
Star Wars franchise actor John Boyega and Robert De Niro are on board to star in Netflix’s car race prodigy drama The Formula.
Gerard McMurray (Burning Sands) will direct the movie about a Formula One race car prodigy who becomes a getaway driver to save his family. McMurray will write, direct and produce the film via his production banner Buppie Productions; Jane Rosenthal, De Niro and Berry Welsh will also share producer credits.

The SVOD giant projects that the clever Omar Sy-fronted crime caper will be watched by 70 million members within its first 28 days on the service. The drama launched on Friday and has already nabbed the #1 spot in Netflix’s Top 10 rankings in countries including Brazil, Vietnam, Argentina, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, the Netherlands, the Philippines and Sweden.
After the release of “Wonder Woman 1984” to HBO Max and theaters, actress Gal Gadot isn’t slowing down for a minute. She’s already announced her next project, which itself has found a home on competing streaming service Netflix.
Not much is known about the film, outside of Gadot’s being the lead and that “Heart of Stone” is some type of espionage thriller. It’ll be helmed by Tom Harper, who directed Felicity Jones in the hot air balloon adventure, “The Aernoauts,” as well as Jessie Buckley in the indie country musical, “Wild Rose.” Greg Rucka and Allison Schroeder will write the script. Pre-production has just started, hence the silence on any further details.
