The deadly stampede at Astroworld Festival in Houston, Texas, happened on Friday during the performance of rapper Travis Scott. At least eight people died and tens of spectators were injured, with the exact cause of the incident still undetermined.

An unidentified person reportedly was jabbing spectators with a drug during the performance at Astroworld Festival on Friday, according to Houston Police Chief Troy Finner.

“We do have a report of a security officer… who was reaching over to restrain a citizen and he felt a prick in his neck,” he told the reporters at a press conference. “He went unconscious and they administered Narcan and he was revived. The medical staff did notice a prick that was similar to if somebody was trying to inject.”

Nevertheless, police will have to wait for the autopsy to determine the causes of death for each of those killed. Open / Comment

On Thursday, federal agents reportedly searched the homes of numerous individuals with ties to media group Project Veritas. FBI has since confirmed that a "court authorized law enforcement activity" took place at an address in Mamaroneck, New York, and a Manhattan apartment.

Project Veritas is notorious for exposing Democratic politicians and media bias.

Project Veritas founder James O'Keefe took to social media on Friday to comment on reports that the FBI had executed their Thursday searches as part of a probe into the disappearance of a diary belonging to Ashley Biden, daughter of US President Joe Biden, that was disclosed and wound up for sale prior to the 2020 presidential election.

He also claims that his organization was previously in contact with the Department of Justice and had provided "unassailable facts that demonstrate Project Veritas' lack of involvement in criminal activity and criminal intent." Open / Comment

Lockheed Martin Corporation has won a more than $10.8 billion US Air Force contract to provide for Advanced Raptor Enhancement and Sustainment for the F-22 Program Office, the US Defense Department said in a press release.

The contract provides support for necessary supplies and services to sustain and modernize the F-22 Raptor jet, including modernization hardware kit procurement and services such as upgrades, enhancements and fixes as well as performance-based logistics services, the release said.

The US Air Force had originally planned to buy a total of 750 jets, but the program was cut to 187 operational aircraft in 2009 due to high costs, a lack of clear air-to-air missions during production, a ban on exports and the development of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. A massive fire has consumed a one-story, L-shaped strip mall on 207 S. Vermont Ave in the Koreatown area of Los Angeles, California, the state's fire department confirmed late Thursday.

Officials detailed in a news alert that the structural fire was reported at 6:40 p.m., local time, and that the first batch of emergency responders had "opened a hole in the roof" that prompted a "heavy fire showing."

An alert issued by the Los Angeles Fire Department details that over 100 firefighters have responded to a scene, and that no injuries have been reported.

US Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said during remarks at the annual Aspen Security Forum that his department hopes to roll out a new asylum rule for US-bound migrants before the end of the year.

In addition, Mayorkas said he hopes to conclude negotiations with Mexican government officials in the coming days on the Biden administration's plans to reinstate the Trump-era Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) program on the US southern border as required under a court order.

The Biden administration has also been in talks with international organizations and non-governmental organizations to address the needs and protection of migrants who will wait in Mexico while they await for their asylum proceedings, Mayorkas said.

MPP, also known as the Remain in Mexico policy, is expected to be reinstated by mid-November, according to US media reports. Open / Comment
