In HR questions it is important that the response should feel like part of conversation and it should come out with conviction

2022-01-16 16:50:56 It is always a relief and satisfying feeling after a long battle that mains aspirants has to go through after every Mains.

When I wrote my first mains in CSE 2019, my immediate feeling after mains was little bit mixed. I was relaxed and happy and at the same time I was little bit scared. The question ‘What if I have to go through the whole process again?’ was bothering me. Many might have the same feeling right now. In CSE 2020, I somehow got the required strength to again go down the same process, like many people who might have given multiple mains.

Those who have written Mains would realise how draining the exam is. It ages you. Whatever the result may be, the experience of writing mains makes you more Mature and a better person- you learn to survive the pressure, fight your weakness, and also you learn to best utilise your limited knowledge !!

Take some break and have a positive mindset !! The journey of becoming a civil servant starts from the preparation days (for many it starts from ORN).

Enjoy the Journey!!

Best wishes

2022-01-15 19:05:04 All the best to all those who are writing optional paper tomorrow.

Few tips

1) Don’t select questions hurriedly. I used to give 6-8 minutes to decide the questions that I’m going to attempt

2) Focus on time management, it is MOST REWARDING (35-40min for each question). If you have half an hour for last question (50marks), then it is good time management

3) I used to attempt the Q5 (compulsory questions) in last and Q1 (compulsory question) at 3rd or 4th position. This I used to do as I generally used to take more time while attempting five 10 marker questions which used to badly impact my time management. People can have their own strategy.

4)Utilise the break properly to revise the short notes and gain confidence

5) Try to write nuanced answers like adding thinkers/contemporary relevance etc rather than writing GS type answers

Best wishes for tomorrow !! Give everything and fight it like a battle.

2022-01-09 16:03:28 With GS papers over now, many might be feeling good, happy, sad or fully drained and lots of other emotions. Even if papers were tough or easy, it was same for everyone. I will pen down my thoughts on question paper once mains is over

Remember CSE mains is marathon. So it is very IMPORTANT to utilise the next 5 days well for optional preparation.

Some general tips for optional preparation, which worked for me

1) I wrote optional mock tests in this 5 days break

The reason was
a) due to GS preparation we generally don’t write any optional test in last 20 days. So it gave me momentum
b) It helped me to revise quickly once (1st revision) and focus on important topics first

So last year on 12th Jan I wrote optional mock test. I just downloaded 2018 paper and gave test sitting in my room. I would suggest you to see questions of 2019 and 2017 (as you are writing 2021 paper, questions are more likely to get repeated every 2 and 4 yrs)

2) In this 5 days, try to revise your optional 3 times. (2.5days+1.5 days+1 day)

3) You can make separate 2-3 pages shorts notes which should include thinkers/best practices/ important formulas etc- can be revised just before optional paper

I learnt this lesson after my CSE 2019 mains. That time I was not able to study efficiently for initial 3 days of the 5 days break

Don’t waste time for next 2 days. Don’t analyse GS papers. Generally our efficiency is low for next 2 days. Try to put extra efforts for next 2-3 days. Start with most important topics

Best wishes !!
