From the mentality of ‘Rajpath’ to the sentiment of ‘Kartavya Path’

Hi!! Our Dear Fam, . The important takeaways to develop Sociological Imagination have been mentioned below

Theoretical perspectives

1. Social Change - Amitabh Kant said, "If India has to grow at 9 to 10 per cent for three decades, all of you have to go at 30 to 40 per cent per year, that is the challenge for India. Without the private sector growing all these, one basic fundamental we must realize is that G20 is not about government alone. Unless you don't grow and prosper, India will not prosper. Unless an MSME doesn't become a large company and large companies do not become super large, India will not prosper."

2. Subaltern Perspective- The main areas of focus are behavioural change through LIFE, green energy, digital transformation, and financial inclusion, among others, as we need to create an equal playing field for everyone

3. Feminist Perspective - Further, India is also determined to deliver outcomes in other critical areas including, but not limited to, women’s empowerment, accelerating progress towards the 2030 SDGs, tech-enabled development across multiple sectors, green hydrogen, disaster risk reduction, enhancing food security and nutrition, and multilateral reform. There is an engagement group like W20

4. Development and dependency - With Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also having declared that debt distress will be on India’s G20 issue list, it is clear that the nation is poised to be an effective funnel for the interests of the Global South, and will not let siloed concerns of the developed world overrun or dominate the broader agenda.

5. Symbolic Interactionist Perspective - The G20 Logo draws inspiration from the vibrant colours of India’s national flag – saffron, white and green, and blue. It juxtaposes planet Earth with the lotus, India’s national flower that reflects growth amid challenges. The Earth reflects India’s pro-planet approach to life, one in perfect harmony with nature. The logo draws upon elements contained in various entries received during an open competition for the logo design. The contest organized on MyGov portal received an enthusiastic response with over 2000 submissions. This is in line with the Prime Minister's vision of Jan Bhagidari during India’s G20 Presidency.

Serve the country during the Amrit Kaal and help realise the Panch Pran.

Dearest Amitabh Kant highlighted that Global leaders build our framework. If it needs to become a top-notch manufacturing nation, businesses would have to grow and prosper. Without your prosperity, India cannot grow. Only India will grow if there are 10,000 Ambanis and 20,000 Adanis instead of just one of each.

From the mentality of ‘Rajpath’ to the sentiment of ‘Kartavya Path’

Hi!! Our Dear Fam, . The important takeaways to develop Sociological Imagination have been mentioned below

Sociology Syllabus Topic- Paper-1 [Stratification and Mobility]{Theories of social stratification- Structural functionalist theory, Marxist theory, Weberian theory. Dimensions– Social stratification of class, status groups, gender, ethnicity and race, Social mobility- open and closed systems}
[Politics and Society] {ideology, Sociological theories of power, agitation,}

Paper-2
[Unit- (B)Social Structure]{Caste system-Ambedkar, Gail Omvedt, Untouchability} {Systems of Kinship in India- Family and marriage in India [Unit- (C)Social Changes in India]{Visions of Social Change in India}
{Social Movements in Modern India- Ethnicity and Identity movement, Women's movement, Backward classes & Dalit movement.

The vision of Begumpura:

Gail Omvedt was an Ambedkarite scholar who contributed immensely to the anti-caste movement. Omvedt endorsed the stand taken by Dalit activists at the 2001 World Conference Against Racism that caste discrimination is similar to racism in regarding discriminated groups as "biologically inferior and socially dangerous".Her notable work included Dalits and the Democratic Revolution, Seeking Begumpura. Soundararajan, executive director of Equality Labs, a Dalit civil rights organisation, writes: anywhere caste-oppressed people require freedom from harm and the hope of a vibrant future.”

Gail Omvedt -Combative activist with Formidable Persona:

She called the United States a "racist country" and has advocated for affirmative action; however, she compared American positive-discrimination policies favourably to those of India, stating: It is a sad commentary on the state of Indian industrialists' social consciousness that such discussions have begun in an organised way in the U.S. before they have been thought of in India itself

Perceptions of "group performance":

Whereas the U.S. debate assumes an overall equal distribution of capacity among social groups, in India the assumption seems to be that the unequal showing of different caste groups on examinations, in education, etc. is a result of actual different capacities.

Chakravarti’s essay:

It Plots Gail’s intellectual excursions in the worlds of scholarship concerning caste, class, gender, patriarchy, women, land relations and ownership, farming, alternate histories of Maharashtra and so on.

New Social movement:

Omvedt worked with social movements in India, including the Dalit and anti-caste movements, environmental movements, farmers' movements and especially with rural women. She was active in Shramik Mukti Dal, Sri Mukti Sangarsh Chalval which works on issues of abandoned women in Sangli and Satara districts of southern Maharashtra, and the Shetkari Mahila Aghadi, which works on issues of women's land rights and political power. She also wrote New Social Movements and the Socialist Tradition in India, We Shall Smash this Prison: Indian Women in Struggle and Reinventing Revolution.

Anti-caste assertion:

Geetha writes that Gail’s studies of Phule and his times, the non-brahmans in Bombay union politics, and the relationship between communists, nationalists and the non-brahman movement are very valuable for what they tell us about the emergence of a distinctive third sort of politics in late colonial India.

2022-11-04 10:03:18 The Concept of free love/fluid Identity is closely related to the sociology of jealousy which deals with cultural and social factors that influence what causes jealousy, how jealousy is expressed, and how attitudes toward jealousy change over time

.
From the mentality of ‘Rajpath’ to the sentiment of ‘Kartavya Path’

Contemporary practitioners of what is now called polyamory (multiple intimate relationships) for the most part treat jealousy as an inevitable problem, best handled by accommodation and communication In mainstream society, although jealousy still carries connotations of insecurity, there is a greater tendency to accept it as a normal and expected reaction to a relationship threat

John Rawls - distinguishes between jealousy and envy on the ground that jealousy involves the wish to keep what one has, and envy is the wish to get what one does not have. Thus, a child is jealous of her parent's attention to a sibling but envious of her friend's new bicycle

3 ways to overcome jealousy/envy -

a.Acknowledge your jealousy/envy- Jealousy arises when you want what someone else has. So, whenever such feelings of jealousy occur, first acknowledge that yes, I am feeling jealous. and try to find its root cause. This way, you'll become more self-aware and mature in dealing with that emotion

b. Stop comparing yourself -We always tend to constantly compare our life with someone who is doing better than us. This gives rise to envious thoughts. Understand that everyone is living their own life at their own pace. So, there's no good in comparing your life with someone else's. Instead, start accepting yourself and focus on how you can be better at what you do.

c. Learn to be grateful- There will always be someone better than you or more successful than you. So, what you need to learn is to be grateful for what you have right now. Only then will you be able to avoid this trap of envy. Remember, a little gratitude can go a long way.

Hi!! Our Dear Fam, . The important takeaways to develop Sociological Imagination have been mentioned below

From the mentality of ‘Rajpath’ to the sentiment of ‘Kartavya Path’

Sociology Syllabus Topic- Paper-1
[Sociological Thinkers] [Mead ]- {Self and Identity}
{Dimensions - Social stratification of gender, ethnicity and race}
[Politics and Society] {Social movements, democracy}
[System of Kinship] {Patriarchy and Sexual division of Labour}

Sociology Syllabus Topic-Paper-2

[Religion and Society] {Problems of religious minorities, Patriarchy, entitlements and sexual division of labour}
[Challenges of Social transformation]{Violence against women}
[Social Movements in Modern India] {Women's movement
.}

Theoretical perspectives::

Free love

Free love is a social movement that accepts all forms of love. The movement's initial goal was to separate the state from sexual and romantic matters such as marriage, birth control, and adultery. It stated that such issues were the concern of the people involved and no one else. The movement began around the 19th century but was notably progressed by the hippies in the Sixties.

Historically the free-love movement has not advocated multiple sexual partners or short-term sexual relationships. Rather, it has argued that sexual relations that are freely entered into should not be regulated by law, and may be initiated or terminated by the parties involved.This concept is also related to Sociology of Jealousy and envy

Relationship to feminism-

The history of free love is entwined with the history of feminism.

Sex positivity - is the cultural philosophy that understands sexuality as a potentially positive force in one's life, and it can be contrasted with sex-negativity, which sees sex as problematic, disruptive, and dangerous. Sex-positivity allows for sexual diversity, differing desires and relationships structures, and individual choices based on consent negative sexual experiences caused by lack of information, support, and choices] are the cultural conditions that sex-positivity allows us to point out as curtailers of healthy, enjoyable sexual experience."

Genderfluid people often express a desire to remain flexible about their gender identity rather than committing to a single definition. They may fluctuate among differing genddifferentsions over their lifetime, or express multiple aspects of various gender markers at the same time. A genderfluid person may also identify as bigender, trigender etc

Herbert Spencer- The eminent sociologist Herbert Spencer argued in his Principles of Sociology for the implementation of free divorce. Claiming that marriage consists of two components, "union by law" and "union by affection", he argued that with the loss of the latter union, a legal union she would lose all meaning and dissolve automatically, without the legal requirement for a divorce. Free love particularly stressed women's rights since most sexual laws discriminated against women: for example, marriage laws and anti-birth control measures
