Dear parents and caregivers, while there are many evidence-based approaches and strategies out there proven to be able to help us in nurturing our children, we may not be able to apply them effectively if we do not possess the mental and emotional capacities to do so especially through our children’s difficult behaviours.

We will be conducting two complimentary runs of our seminar on parent self-care over Zoom; the first will be held on 17 March 2022 (Thursday, 9:30am to 11am) and the second one on 16 April 2022 (Saturday, 9:30am to 11am).

We hope that you will join us as we explore how we can better take care of our children as we take care of ourselves as their parents.

Registration is currently open for the run on 17 March 2022; details are in the FB event page. Registration for the April run will begin two weeks prior to the session.

We look forward to engaging with you, your spouse and friends who are fellow parents. Please help us spread the word!

We are no parenting experts either, just fellow sojourners in this parenting journey keen on sharing resources to raise up a generation of well-adjusted and confident children for our and their collective future.

To all whom we’ve had the privilege of interacting with, we hope that you have been encouraged to persevere fiercely in showing up for your children especially through their difficult experiences.

We would be conducting two complimentary runs of one of our modules on parental self-care this month; details to follow.

Hi Parents and Caregivers! In support of Quality Check (info in previous post ), we will be conducting a complimentary webinar next Saturday, 19 February 2022 from 10am to 12 noon over the Zoom platform.

Titled "Parenting Mediation Begins in Early Childhood", this session seeks to equip parents of young children (new-born to lower primary) with the necessary knowledge to enable them to make informed decisions in managing their children’s / ward’s screen activities, scaffolding them towards becoming positive digital media users as they grow up.

More information on the session can be found on our FB post: https://www.facebook.com/TOUCHParenting/posts/148376697561828

You can register for the session for FREE at https://qualitycheck.sg/quality-check-webinar/

Wishing you and family a great weekend ahead!

Quality Check is a health communication campaign on the quality of children's screen time with the aim of encouraging parents of young children to select quality content for their children to watch and engage in co-viewing with their children to make the most out of screen time.

Together with Singtel, we at TOUCH Community Services and TOUCH Parenting are happy to be supporting this campaign initiated and helmled by a group of final year students from Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

Do check out The Quality Check Challenge happening from 14 to 20 February 2022 especially if you're a parent or a care-giver to young children; it has meaningful activities that will help you select better content for your children to watch and there are prizes to be won too!

We have rolled out a survey to better understand the needs of parents and caregivers with children aged 0 to 18 and the area of concerns that they may have. The survey results would in turn guide us in formulating the programmes that would better cater to the needs in the coming months.

If you are a parent or a main caregiver to a child within the abovementioned age range, we appreciate your help in filling in this short survey (~ 3 minutes). You can scan the QR code found on the image or access the survey at http://bit.ly/tpneeds22

Thanks much!

There is no recommended duration of screen or game time for children beyond pre-schooling age. As with all other activities, it is about establishing a balance between the child’s various activities, making sure that screen related activities do not get in the way of work, physical health and family relationships. In this sense, if any of these areas seem to be compromised by the way they are having their screen or game time, then it will probably be helpful to address it, not that it is "too much", but whatever amount of it has affected other areas of their lives negatively.

In a challenging behaviour “emergency”:

Stay Cool – When the adult escalates, the child follows suit; when the adult remains calm, the child de-escalates.

Stay Curious – What challenge is the child experiencing to be showing the challenging behaviour?
