2021-11-02 13:40:02 The next time a behaviour from our children threatens to trigger off a seemingly uncontrollable reaction in us, choose to listen; listen to our feelings, let the temperature dip, explain our emotions, and come back at it after they've run the course. Listen to theirs too – help them identify the emotions big and small if they are unable to, and soon they would learn to regulate, too. And that in itself is some time well-spent together between parent and child.

2021-10-28 07:14:15 When we extend genuine compassion to our children, we not only help them tune into their own emotions, but we also help them turn toward us.

Some of us might be enjoying many a good conversation with our children, having them listen in to our inputs and building life together; some of us might be in situations where our communication with them have been marred by difficult and sometimes incomprehensible behaviours.

Whichever case it may be, there is always time to build and nurture this relationship with our children, so long as they are in our care.

We would be running a complimentary session next Saturday on 6 Nov 2021 to explore how we can better communicate and walk alongside our teenage children. Join us with your spouse, a friend or two, or even with your child, so that there will be someone whom you can be accountable to in the points that you will be picking up and in the approaches that you might choose to try out. • Understand and empathise with the common psychological and emotional changes teenagers go through at this stage of their development,

• Equip ourselves with a set of phase-appropriate strategies to encourage healthy self-esteem and self-worth in our growing teens, and

• Adopt good communication habits with our teenage children such as to encourage more two-way conversations.

2021-10-24 10:50:30 We concluded our final two runs of the Positive Parenting Programme (Triple P) Seminar Series for the year this past weekend to a turnout of over 300 parents and caregivers with children studying in schools in the Toa Payoh and Jalan Besar region.

Participants who attended the teen series facilitated by Shem (Head / TOUCH Parenting) on 8, 15 and 22 October explored together the topics of raising responsible, competent teenagers and getting teenagers connected. Those who attended the 0 to 12 series facilitated by Galvin (Senior Family Life Educator / TOUCH Parenting) on 9, 16 and 23 October explored together the power of positive parenting and the raising of confident, competent and resilient children.

2021-10-19 13:27:47 The 3Es form part of our Inside-Out Parenting Model, in which we lay out the dispositions (parenting postures and attitudes) and strategies that would help us communicate better with our children and nurture them to become independent and well-adjusted individuals as they grow up.

Why the need to engage our children’s hearts when our parents didn’t do so when we were our children’s age? The simple answer would be Internet and social media. Back then, we can count with our fingers the number of bad influences we could possibly be exposed to. Now, we are talking about millions out there waiting to engage with our children.
