Elon Musk threatens to walk away from Twitter deal

Elon
Musk has threatened to walk away from his $44bn takeover of Twitter, accusing the social media company of "thwarting" his requests to learn more about its user base. The letter formalises a dispute that has simmered for weeks after Mr Musk declared the deal "on hold" pending further information.

The dispute has raised more doubts about the future of the takeover, which Twitter's board approved in April. Twitter, which has said Mr Musk waived typical rights to due diligence in his eagerness to clinch the deal, added that it intended to complete the takeover at the agreed price and terms. Mr Musk, who faces a $1bn break-up fee and possible lawsuit if he opts out, first raised the issue of the spam accounts on social media last month, saying the deal was on hold but he remained committed to the acquisition.

Musk threatens to walk away from Twitter deal

Elon
Musk is threatening to walk away from his $44 billion bid to buy Twitter, accusing the company of refusing to give him information about its spam bot and fake accounts. Lawyers for the Tesla and SpaceX CEO made the threat in a letter to Twitter dated Monday, and Twitter disclosed it in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

The letter says Musk has repeatedly asked for the information since May 9, about a month after his offer to buy the company, so he could evaluate how many of the company’s 229 million accounts are fake. Shares of Twitter Inc. slid just under 3% Monday, likely incensing Twitter shareholders who filed a suit against Musk late last month for deflating the price of the stock. Shares of Twitter are down 23% in the last month.

Twitter says waiting period for Elon Musk's $44 billion acquisition deal has expired

The development comes as Musk said last month that the Twitter deal was "temporarily on hold", while he sought more information about the proportion of fake accounts on the platform.

Twitter Inc said on Friday the waiting period under the HSR Act for Elon Musk's $44-billion acquisition of the social media firm has expired. Completion of the deal is now subject to remaining customary closing conditions, including approval by Twitter stockholders and the receipt of applicable regulatory approvals, Twitter said. The HSR Act, or the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act, requires parties to report large transactions to both the Federal Trade Commission and the U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division for review.

Launching AMBER Alerts on Instagram to Help Find Missing Children

Today
, we’re bringing AMBER Alerts to Instagram for the first time. This feature was developed in partnership with organizations like the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) in the US, the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children, the National Crime Agency in the UK, the Attorney General’s Office in Mexico, the Australian Federal Police and more.

We know that the chances of finding a missing child increase when more people are on the lookout, especially in the first few hours. With this update, if an AMBER Alert is activated by law enforcement and you are in the designated search area, the alert will now appear in your Instagram feed. The alert will include important details about the child such as a photo, description, location of the abduction and any other available information that can be provided. People can also share the alert with friends to further spread the word.

Instagram To Soon Launch New Updates Including Hiding The Number Of Followers On User Accounts And Cropping Posts On Profiles

The popular social media app Instagram is working on a number of updates that would soon be coming into play. The news comes through an avid tech enthusiast named Alessandro Paluzzi who revealed some screenshots on Twitter.Firstly, Instagram is experimenting with the idea to allow users to disguise the number of followers on their account profiles.

And that’s when replies started coming in relating to how the move was in line with the same reason the app allows users to disguise the number of likes on their posts. It’s simple, some users just feel a lot more comfortable while limiting these kinds of information. But others didn’t sound convinced and they felt the app was becoming less transparent by the way and hence there just might be a day coming soon where the app would be introducing features that disguise everything.
