[Updated] Instagram filters not showing or says 'This effect is not available in your location'

Instagram is one of the most popular social platforms in the world. Currently, the service is part of the Meta conglomerate — formerly known as Facebook.Unlike other social platforms, Instagram is based on multimedia content instead of text. The main role on Instagram is taken by pictures and short videos.

One of the most popular Instagram features is its filters. Many users find very attractive effects that they can apply to their photos through the app.Instagram filters not only modify the color tones of the images. There are also filters that can profoundly modify the appearance of the subject. However, currently Instagram filters are not showing for many users who only receive an error message saying ‘This effect is not available in your location’.

Elon Musk puts Twitter deal on hold over fake account details

Elon
Musk has said his $44bn (£35bn) deal to buy Twitter is on hold after he queried the number of fake or spam accounts on the social media platform. He said he was waiting for information "supporting [the] calculation that spam/fake accounts do indeed represent less than 5% of users".

Mr Musk added later that he was "still committed to [the] acquisition".However, analysts speculated he could be seeking to renegotiate the price or even walk away from the takeover.Mr Musk's tweets sent Twitter's share price plunging 10% in morning trade in New York.Even before his comments, the company's stock had been selling for less than the $54.20 per share Mr Musk has offered, a sign that the markets were not convinced he would complete the buyout.

TikTok Sued After 10-Year-Old Dies in ‘Blackout Challenge’

TikTok Inc. was blamed in a lawsuit for the death of a 10-year-old girl who allegedly participated in an online challenge in which people choke themselves until they black out.

Nylah Anderson, an intelligent child who could speak three languages, was found unconscious in her bedroom in suburban Philadelphia on Dec. 7, according to a complaint filed Thursday in federal court. She spent five days in a pediatric intensive care unit before succumbing to her injuries. The “algorithm determined that the deadly blackout challenge was well-tailored and likely to be of interest to 10-year-old Nylah Anderson and she died as a result,” according to the complaint, which also names TikTok parent company ByteDance Inc. as a defendant.

Texans lose ability to use filters on Instagram

As
of May 11, Meta, Instagram’s parent company, has removed the ability to use certain filters as a result of Texas’ facial recognition laws.Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit against Meta claiming the company misused facial recognition technology.

Paxton stated that the filters broke the Texas Capture or Use of Biometric Identifier Act as they learn a user’s face and tags them without consent.Due to the act’s outlines, any filters using facial geometry can not be used within state lines.Texans are not alone in this ban, as Illinois users are also not allowed to use augmented reality filters due to the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act.

Introducing Digital Collectibles to Showcase NFTs on Instagram

Every
day, creators inspire people and push culture forward around the world. With the incredible opportunity of blockchain technology, they can now leverage new tools to earn income, and fans can support their favorite creators by purchasing digital collectibles – art, images and videos, music or trading cards – as non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

Creators are using new technologies like NFTs to take more control over their work, their relationship with their fans, and how they can monetize. At Meta, we’re looking at what creators are already doing across our technologies in order to improve the experience, help them create more monetization opportunities, and bring NFTs to a broader audience. We’re beginning to test digital collectibles with a handful of U.S. creators and collectors who will be able to share NFTs on Instagram that they have created or bought.

TikTok to launch ad revenue-sharing program for creators

New
York, United States: TikTok on Wednesday announced an ad revenue-sharing program with the social media platform's most prominent creators, moving closer to a model already used by its competitors.

The short-video format app has become wildly popular in recent years with more than a billion active users globally, but has been criticized for not providing a way for creators to effectively monetize content.Under the new TikTok Pulse program, companies can place their ads next to user content in specific categories, including health, fashion, cooking, gaming and others—and creators will get a cut.
