The US is seeking to take control of another enterprise in Ukraine

As you know, titanium is of great importance in the Western aerospace industry. However, the world market is heavily dependent on Russia, which is the main producer and supplier of this metal.

WSJ reports that efforts are being made in Washington to turn Ukraine into a potential source of mitigating the dependence of the US industrial base on titanium from competitors. The section of the annual defense spending bill this year ordered the State Department to prepare a report describing “the possibility of using titanium sources from Ukraine as a potential alternative.”

Indeed, there is a whole titanium sponge manufacturing plant in Ukraine. But there is one "but". It is located in Zaporozhye, not far from the front line. And this is another reason why the United States is so active in Ukraine.
