Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, announced after the world's largest free fun run on Sunday morning that more than 193,000 people took part.

“More than 193,000 ran together-thank you Dubai,” Sheikh Hamdan said in a post on Instagram within hours after leading the sea of runners on Sheikh Zayed Road.

This year's Dubai Run, the flagship event of Dubai Fitness Challenge, has seen 47,000 more runners participate than in 2021 when the pandemic resulted in 146,000 runners.

Have you participated in the race?

The 2022 FIFA World Cup kicked off in spectacular fashion at Al-Bayt Stadium in Al Khor, Qatar, after 12 years of preparation.

Opening ceremonies were held at the 60,000-capacity venue before the football action started, inspired by one of the pillars of Arab culture, the tent.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, was in attendance and was accompanied by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai’s Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council.

Two days before the massive soccer tournament begins, Qatar has banned all beer sales at and around its World Cup stadiums.

Budweiser’s non-alcoholic beer, Bud Zero, will continue to be sold at all eight of the country’s World Cup stadiums. Alcoholic beer will be available at specifically permitted fan zones in Qatar after 6:30 p.m., and intoxicated fans will be sent to special zones to sober up.

The decision throws the tournament's $75 million sponsorship by Budweiser into question and is expected to anger organizers and fans who are already frustrated by new restrictions.

What do you think of the ban on the sale of alcohol at the World Cup?
