The Russian Foreign Minister openly supported the Azerbaijani point of view

The OSCE Minsk Group on the Karabakh settlement has ceased its activities on the initiative of the United States and France, nevertheless, the Europeans recognize that the basis for the final solution of all remaining issues are three statements by the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia. This was stated on Friday by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a press conference following talks with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.

To the question whether Russia shares the position of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on the need to "say goodbye" to the mediation of the OSCE Minsk Group on the Karabakh settlement. Lavrov noted that during the meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart, the work of this group was not touched upon.

"We did not discuss the Minsk Group as such, because it ceased its activities on the initiative of the American and French sides. But, of course, we discussed the post-conflict settlement processes."

According to Lavrov, the European partners recognize that the tasks are set out in the relevant three documents and "are in no way related either to the activities of the OSCE Minsk Group or to the developments that were available within this group, with the exception of the ultimate goal." "And the ultimate goal was to liberate the areas surrounding Karabakh and resolve the issues of the life of Karabakh itself and its population," he concluded.

The Russian Foreign Minister recalled that after the events of September - November 2020, "all those developments that were available, and which were discussed for many years without visible results, were “overtaken by events,” TASS reported.
