NFT theft hit $100 million in the year that ended July 2022.

(An NFT is essentially a digital collectible. Think of it like a virtual painting or baseball card.)

One of Nike's top virtual-collectibles executives had an estimated $173,000 of NFTs stolen from his crypto wallet this month.

Experts said it's unlikely the assets will get recovered, but said there are simple ways to protect NFTs.

From a US recession to a big China bounce back, Wall Street experts' big predictions for 2023 are already going awry, Insider’s Linette Lopez writes.

Wall Street's collective predictions for the US economy paint a general picture of overaction and overreaction.

The world's weirdness — pandemic, war, commodity-price convulsions, energy scarcity — has also prompted Wall Street to take a very dim view of the economic outlook for Europe, going so far as to forecast a deep recession.

“We talk about sex and politics and religion. So why is it still so hard to divulge our salaries?” Insider’s Aki Ito asks.

Pay-disclosure laws signal a new era of transparency in the workplace. No longer will our salaries be shrouded in secrecy, forcing us to negotiate in the dark for fair wages.

But that doesn’t make the conversation any less awkward. Read more here.

2023-01-18 21:01:39 Pinnacle Stone Restoration has specialized in the repair of terrazzo and other natural-stone surfaces for over 20 years. Owner Kosta Ebanoidze walks us through how the company restores 100-year-old terrazzo floors that were covered by carpet at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.

Restoring the 5,000 square feet of terrazzo involves removing the carpet, filling in nail holes, grinding the floors to even their surface, honing the terrazzo to remove scratches, and sealing the floors to protect from wear and tear.

Insider asked career coaches and counselors the worst majors for landing a stable, high-paying gig.

They said degrees in acting, English, psychology, and marketing were tough sells in most fields. Other majors, like philosophy and anthropology, require a graduate degree and a specific role.

2023-01-18 13:47:19 If a person who has COVID-19 dies in China, chances are their death certificate won't mention the virus.

Six doctors in public hospitals across China say they have been instructed to not attribute deaths to COVID-19 if the patient had any underlying health diseases, Reuters reported. Instead, those health conditions should be listed as the main cause of death on the deceased's death certificate.

China has been criticized for grossly underreporting its COVID-19 deaths. Click here for the full story.

2023-01-17 19:41:30 An Indian passenger live-streamed himself and his three friends on a passenger plane just seconds before it crashed in Nepal on Sunday.

Sonu Jaiswal, 29, filmed himself and his three friends as their flight prepared to land in Pokhara. The harrowing footage also shows flames and a loud crash as the plane went down.

None of the 72 people on board are expected to have survived the crash, and 70 bodies have so far been recovered, Nepal's civil aviation authority said on Tuesday.

2023-01-13 02:01:01 As ChatGPT goes viral and "generative AI" becomes a buzzword, many VCs are anxious to invest in the space.

If the early 2010s was the era of startups with the elevator pitch of " It's like Uber, but for (fill in the blank)," we may be entering the era of founders explaining why their companies as like ChatGPT, but for, well, everything.
