Perhaps the greatest crime of the 21st century is forsaking one's volk for an emerging class of "exotic", foreign cosmopolitans. Human capital in exchange for "a better economy".

Imagine, there are a handful of Greek trillionaires by mid century. But the native Greek population has been replaced by MENA & East African (and possibly East Asian) demographics. For the betterment of the country, but not the nation. Because these are two separate things.

Caspian Report | Geoeconomics of Saudi Arabia’s NEOM project | 19-02-18
— "Saudi Arabia announced plans to construct a new megacity in the northwestern corner of the country by the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aqaba. The ambitious project will cost about 500 billion USD and seeks to link to neighbouring Egypt and Jordan.

Besides its economic feasibility, the proximity of the project could lead to Saudi Arabia’s recognition of Israel. Suffice to say, a project of this magnitude is not without its geo-economic challenges."

Greece was of immense maritime commercial importance in the 1960s. By the 1970s the U.S. shifted towards China. Nixon's visit to China was roughly around the time of great political upheaval in Greece. The collapse of the Greek Junta, losing the Cypriot war against Turkey. Along with the deaths of famed Aristotle Onassis and his son, Greece would enter into a period of decay and banking troubles.

With the discovery of hydrocarbons in the East Med during the 2010's there has been a great rebalancing shift back towards Greece. Stirring tensions between Greece & Turkey, resulting in proxy wars and a hyperactive Israel in the shadows. The 2020's holds great promise in the nearby Red Sea. The so-called Ocean Economy is comparable to SpaceX in terms of growth. East Africa has become a geopolitical spotlight. In the Straits of Tiran, Saudi Arabia is investing everything in Neom City to compete with Dubai. Depend on whether or not the Muslim brotherhood comes out on top of the current Sunni cold war between Qatar-Turkey vs KSA & co, Greece's shift to N/E. Africa and the East-Med/Red Sea is a golden opportunity to regain ancient prestige.

The cost being, economic security for decidedly casting off Europe. Greece sees itself as a periphery of Europe, they distinctly hate their neighbours. In lieu of this, they seek a mixed back of trade partners and allies across the sea. Haftar's Libya, Egypt, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Syria, and the UAE. It remains to be seen whether Greece will attempt to face Turkey in East African proxy wars, or whether they can trust their relatively distant allies to secure Greek interests in a widely violent arena they've entered.

"Greece stands at the threshold of a strategic shift that could see it become Europe’s geopolitical gatekeeper of the emerging E. Africa-to-Europe and ME-to-Europe commercial corridors."
