2020-06-12 22:37:00 Speaking on Anthropology, which is an important part of the interdisciplinary nature of Social Ecology, there are two books I can deeply recommend.

The first is Fragments of an Anarchist Anthropology by David Graeber which talks about the creation of new anarchist approaches to anthropology. https://libcom.org/library/fragments-anarchist-anthropology

The second is a collection of essays titled The Anthropology of Utopia by Dan Chodorkoff. https://theanarchistlibrary.org/library/dan-chodorkoff-the-anthropology-of-utopia

Decanonizing academia, especially a field with a past of justifying oppression like anthropology is an important step towards making a more non-hierarchical academia. Putting forward marginalized voices, especially those of BIPOC is a needed step in this direction.

2020-06-09 21:09:29 PSA: Mobility devices aren't chains, they give their users freedom.

Also, using mobility devices isn't the end of the world, often it's more like the beginning of a world in which you're free to move around as you please.

Also people who use wheelchairs or other mobility devices are visibly disabled, but

a) they are more than just their disability, they are people - stop reducing people to what you see.

b) there also are invisible disabilities. If someone tells you they're disabled and you don't believe it because you can't see it, then you're a huge bigot.

And as an add-on let me also tell you that people exist who use a wheelchair, but not always. And just because you see someone walk once who you know uses a wheelchair does neither mean they lied (if you believe that you again are a bigot) nor that they will not use the wheelchair again.

Believe people when they tell you about their lived experience. They know best how it is to be them.

Never make someone prove they are disabled.

It's up to us to push forward and demand a world without policing. It's not even a utopian goal, this is something easily within our reach and being enacted at this very moment.
