+++ Scholz gives speech on Europe at Prague’s Charles University

During his first visit as German chancellor to the neighbouring Czech Republic, Olaf Scholz (SPD) will give a keynote speech on European policy in the capital Prague on Monday. Government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit said in advance that the speech would focus on the “effects on the European Union of the turning point in history”. At the end of February, Scholz had described Russia’s attack on Ukraine and the resulting realignment of German foreign and security policy as a “turning point in history”. Scholz will give his 60-minute speech on Europe in the Karolinum, the historic main building of Charles University, which was founded in 1348 and is one of the oldest universities in Europe. The speech will see Scholz position himself comprehensively in European policy for the first time.
