Microsoft is about to buy game publisher Activision Blizzard for $70 billion
Microsoft is close to buy Activision Blizzard, the video game maker behind the "Call of Duty" franchise, in what would be the largest takeover of the American tech giant in history.
Microsoft's offer of $95 a share represents a 45% premium to Activision's closing trading Friday. Activision shares rose nearly 38% to $65.39 in premarket trading.
The deal is worth about $68.7 billion, nearly $20 billion more than Activision Blizzard's current market capitalization.
Up until the deal closes, the companies will operate independently of each other, but then Activision Blizzard will report to Phil Spencer as head of Microsoft Gaming.
Whether the deal will pass antitrust regulators' scrutiny is unknown, Reuters.
