Magic is coming!

Based on the International Best Selling Book Series and starring Charlize Theron, Kerry Washington, Sophia Anne Caruso and Sofia Wylie,
The School for Good & Evil comes to Netflix this September.

"The School For Good and Evil" books follow two teen girls living in a fairytale-like world who are enrolled in the titular school, which is divided into two parts. One school trains would-be heroes, while the other educates villains in training.

If the movie is well-received, one of their new franchises could very well end up being "The School For Good and Evil," Paul Feig's adaptation of Soman Chainani's popular young adult fantasy book series.
Today, Netflix unveiled a first look at the film, which is reportedly based on the first of six related novels.

So what the fuss is all about?

Long story short:

There is a provision in copyright law that allows authors or their estate to reclaim/terminate a property's license after thirty-five years.
The Yonays sent Paramount a notice of termination in January 2020, and are alleging the studio flat-out ignored the statute. They also claim the film wasn't finished until May 8, 2021.

Paramount says the movie was "sufficiently completed" before the termination date. The studio has also, of course, pledged to mount a vigorous defense to combat a copyright claim they believe is meritless.

Meanwhile, the film took off theatrically in the U.S. with a stratospheric $160 million four-day gross, and dropped a mere 29% over its second weekend, the best-ever domestic hold for a movie that opened over $100 million!

Great job

BREAKING NEWS:
“Top Gun: Maverick” is in the big trouble.

Paramount Faces Lawsuit Over Top Gun: Maverick Copyright Claim

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the heirs of Ehud Yonay, the journalist who wrote the 1983 Californian article on which 1986's "Top Gun" was based, are suing Paramount for violating their copyright.

The Yonays claim Paramount "consciously failed" to renew the copyright in 2020 when the rights to the story reverted to the family, and they are now seeking an injunction to keep Paramount from continuing to exploit the property.

The official synopsis courtesy of Netflix:

“Wednesday is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting 16-year-old Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy.

Season One will follow Wednesday as she attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the murder mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.”

If there’s a season one, it gives us hope for season two, right?

As a fan of Burton, I’m very excited!

Deadpool 3 Writer Promises: It’s ‘Absolutely’ R-Rated!

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are currently writing “Deadpool 3” for director Shawn Levy and star Rayan Reynolds.

The upcoming third installment of the “Deadpool” franchise will be the first made under Disney, which acquired Fox in 2019, after Fox found immense success with two R-rated “Deadpool” movies

Reese: “[…] the great part is that Marvel’s been incredibly supportive. They are gonna let Deadpool be Deadpool, you know?“
“[…] They’re not gonna mess with the tone. […] We would like it to be R, we always have, so I don’t think that’ll change.”

Unfortunately, “Deadpool 3” currently does not have a release date.
But we’re waiting!

Hey, guys!
Sorry for disappearing.

I was drinking celebrating Johnny Depp’s victory.

I won’t be telling you about this one, you already know everything, for sure.

Let’s just raise a mega-pint of wine.
I think it’s necessary.

Moving on!
