Mark Gurman of Bloomberg reported that Apple is conducting internal testing with different variations of the M2 chip on at least nine Macs.
The company is believed to be working on devices with M2, M2 Pro, M2 Max, and M1 Ultra chips. This is how computers and chips are distributed:
- MacBook Air with M2 chip, identifier J413;
- Mac mini with M2 and M2 Pro chips, IDs J473 and , ID J474;
- MacBook Pro 13" with M2 chip, identifier J493;
- MacBook Pro 14 and 16 inches with M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, IDs J414 and J416;
- Mac Pro with M1 Ultra successor, ID J180.
The base M2 chip has 8 CPU cores and 10 graphics cores, while the M2 Max has 12 CPU cores and 38 graphics cores.
The Cupertino team is also testing a Mac mini with the M1 Pro chip, which is used in the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros.
This testing phase is a key part of the development process and will most likely be unveiled in the coming months.
