2021-09-03 14:52:55 Khorasan (خراسان) also called Greater Khorasan (خراسان بزرگ) was a historical region comprised the present territories of northeastern Iran, parts of Afghanistan, Tajikistan and southern parts of Central Asia. It included Important cities such as Nishapur (present-day Iran), Marv (present-day Turkmenistan), Herat and Balkh (present-day Afghanistan), Bukhara and Samarqand (present-day Uzbekistan)

Khorasan which literally means "where the sun arrives from" was the Eastern Province of Sasanian Empire. Almost two centuries after Arab invasion in the 7th century, Khorasan was the first territory to became independent from Arab rule. It played a great role in reviving the Persian language and remained the cultural capital of Persia Until the devastating Mongol invasion of the 13th century.

Khorasan is the birthplace of many prominent scientists and poets such as Avicenna (Abu Ali Sina), Omar Khayyam, Rudaki, Ferdowsi and Rumi (Mowlānā/ Mawlavī).

Today, the term Khorasan is a source of great nostalgia and nationalism, especially amongst the Tajiks of Central Asia and Afghanistan. many of them regard Khorasan as an integral part of their national identity. Open / Comment
