Pangong Lake

Pangong Tso or Pangong Lake is an endorheic lake in the Himalayas situated at a height of about 14,270 ft.

It is 134 km long and 5 km wide at its broadest point and extends from India to the Tibetan Autonomous Region, China.

Approximately 60% of the length of the lake lies within the Tibetan Autonomous Region, china.

It is not a part of the Indus river basin area and geographically a separate landlocked river basin

The Line of Actual Control passes through the lake. A section of the lake approximately 20 km east from the Line of Actual Control is controlled by China but claimed by India.

Sardar Sarovar Dam

It was built across the Narmada river in Kevadiya of Gujarat

Type of the dam is gravity dam

The construction of the dam began in 1987 and was opened in 2017

It is the second largest concrete dam in the world after America's Coulee dam and third highest concrete dam in India

It provides irrigation water to Gujarat, Maharashtra and Rajasthan

The power produced is shared by Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat

The dam construction was initially funded by the World Bank

This dam is one of the focal points of Narmada Bachao Andolan movement

Kolleru Lake

Kolleru Lake is one of the largest freshwater lakes in India located in state of Andhra Pradesh and forms the largest shallow freshwater lake in Asia.

Kolleru is located between Krishna and Godavari deltas and spans into two districts – Krishna and West Godavari. 

Many birds migrate here in winter, such as Siberian crane, ibis, and painted storks. 

The lake was declared as a wildlife sanctuary in November 1999 under India's WPA of 1972.

Also designated as a wetland of international importance in November 2002 under the international Ramsar Convention.

Rana Pratap Sagar Dam

The Ranapratap Sagar Dam is a gravity masonry dam of (177 ft) height built on the Chambal River at Rawatbhata in Rajasthan in India.

The direct benefit from the dam is hydropower generation of 172 MW.

The dam and power plant are named after the warrior Maharaja Rana Pratap of Rajasthan.

Sibsagar (Sivasagar) Lake

Sibsagar Lake is an artificial lake which was built by Queen Ambika, wife of King Shiva Singha, in the year 1734

It is located in Sivasagar town in Assam, India

The lake was commissioned by the Ahom king Siva Singha.

The lake is surrounded by the Dehing rainforest, where the Dihing (Brahmaputra) and Lohit rivers meet.

Dodital Lake

Dodital is a freshwater lake in uttarkashi district, Uttarakhand, India, situated at a height of 9,921 ft.

Assi ganga river rises from dodital and joins bhagirathi. The confluence is at Gangotri

According to one of the popular legends Lord Ganesha chose this place as his abode.

Vembanad lake

Vembanad or Vembanad Kol is the longest lake in India, and the largest lake in the state of Kerala

It is the second largest Ramasar site in India only after Sunderbans in west bengal, Spanning several districts in the state of Kerala

It is known as Vembanadu Lake in Alappuzha, Punnamada Lake in Kuttanad and Kochi Lake in Kochi.

The famous Nehru Trophy Boat Race is conducted in a portion of the lake in Alappuzha.

The government of India has identified the Vembanad wetland under the National Wetlands Conservation Programme.
