Pangong Lake


Pangong TsoĀ orĀ Pangong Lake is anĀ endorheicĀ lakeĀ in theĀ HimalayasĀ situated at a height of about 14,270Ā ft.

It is 134Ā km long and 5 km wide at its broadest point and extends fromĀ IndiaĀ to theĀ Tibetan Autonomous Region,Ā China.

Approximately 60% of the length of the lake lies within the Tibetan Autonomous Region, china.

It is not a part of theĀ Indus riverĀ basin area and geographically a separate landlocked river basin

TheĀ Line of Actual ControlĀ passes through the lake. A section of the lake approximately 20Ā km east from the Line of Actual Control is controlled by China but claimed by India.

Sardar Sarovar Dam

It was built across the Narmada river in Kevadiya of Gujarat

Type of the dam is gravity dam

The construction of the dam began in 1987 and was opened in 2017

It is the second largest concrete dam in the world after America's Coulee dam and third highest concrete dam in India

It provides irrigation water to Gujarat, Maharashtra and Rajasthan

The power produced is shared by Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat

The dam construction was initially funded by the World Bank

This dam is one of the focal points of Narmada Bachao Andolan movement

Kolleru Lake

Kolleru LakeĀ is one of the largest freshwaterĀ lakesĀ in IndiaĀ located in state ofĀ Andhra PradeshĀ and forms the largest shallow freshwaterĀ lake in Asia.

Kolleru is located betweenĀ KrishnaĀ andĀ GodavariĀ deltas and spans into two districts ā€“ Krishna and West Godavari.Ā 

Many birds migrate here in winter, such asĀ Siberian crane, ibis, and painted storks.Ā 

The lake was declared as a wildlife sanctuary in November 1999 under India'sĀ WPA of 1972.

Also designated as aĀ wetland of international importanceĀ in November 2002 under the internationalĀ Ramsar Convention.Ā

Rana Pratap Sagar Dam

TheĀ Ranapratap Sagar DamĀ is a gravity masonry dam of (177Ā ft) height built on theĀ Chambal RiverĀ atĀ RawatbhataĀ inĀ RajasthanĀ inĀ India.

The direct benefit from the dam is hydropower generation ofĀ 172 MW.

The dam and power plant are named after the warriorĀ Maharaja Rana PratapĀ of Rajasthan.

Sibsagar Lake is an artificial lake which was built by Queen Ambika, wife of King Shiva Singha, in the year 1734

It is located in Sivasagar town in Assam, India

The lake was commissioned by theĀ AhomĀ kingĀ Siva Singha.

The lake is surrounded by theĀ DehingĀ rainforest, where theĀ DihingĀ (Brahmaputra) andĀ LohitĀ rivers meet.

Assi ganga river rises from dodital and joins bhagirathi. The confluence is at Gangotri

According to one of the popular legends Lord Ganesha chose this place as his abode.

There is a temple devoted to Lord Ganesha here. Another name for this lake is 'Dhundital' meaning Ganesh ka tal or lake of Ganesha.

It is the second largest Ramasar site in India only after Sunderbans in west bengal, Spanning several districts in the state of Kerala
