Richard Neilson Lochhead, Scottish National Party Minister for Just Transition, Employment and Fair Work, has said that workers need to be sensible over pay claims.
All very good from a man who earns £83,347 plus expenses and has just received a 3.4% increase on top of that. Politicians tell us how we need to show restraint at a time when inflation is rising by the week and a new report from Citizens Advice Scotland says that one in five people have run out of money before they are paid or receive benefits again.
Pay rises, though they should not be excessive, need to at least keep pace with inflation. Many people in Scotland are in or nearing being in working poverty already and the Scottish and Westminster governments are both failing them.
