Gas Sanctions Excluded from Next EU Package - as Dutch Supplies Cut
The Russian gas embargo will not be in the seventh package of sanctions according to Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer, who added that German counterpart Olaf Scholz will refuse to discuss it.
Although Nehammer added that it is easier to replace Russian oil, the EU has had to make concessions to its original unilateral oil embargo plans after fierce opposition from Hungary in particular.
Nehammer’s statement comes as the Netherlands becomes the fourth EU nation to have Russian gas supplies cut by Gazprom after state wholesaler GasTerra refused to make ruble payments for April.
