The Marmalade Test, or Who Can Be Happy?
This famous experiment once marked a revolution in psychology and pedagogy.
A child is left in a room, and a marmalade, marshmallow or cookie is placed on the table in front of him. He is warned that he can eat the marmalade now, and then the experiment is over.
But if he waits for the experimenter to return, he will be rewarded with two marmalades.
Children who can't wait and eat the marmalade right away or try to eat it secretly are more likely to have problems at work in the future, get low grades when applying to university, have trouble paying attention at school, and have trouble maintaining friendships.
It's a fact: A child who can wait 15 minutes will score half as many points on admission as a child who waits only 30 seconds.
