Economy is recovering from the pandemic, and Russia is open to partnership with Asia-Pacific countries. The region is developing at a faster pace than the world average. Russia is a part of the APR, Putin stressed. The state is going to create a space of opportunity in the Far East for new breakthrough projects.

Thus, unprecedented measures of state support will be introduced in the Kuril Islands. All taxes, including income, property, land and transport, will be abolished for the next 10 years. There will also be introduced a free customs zone regime, which means the abolition of VAT.

The President stressed that this only applies to companies operating in the Kuril Islands, not just those registered. High-income businesses will not be able to take advantage of this regime. For others, there will be no restrictions. Vladimir Putin expressed the hope that this would attract Japanese companies to the development of the region.

The topic of the session was "New trends in the global economy from the Atlantic to the Pacific: the Ural dimension". Metallurgical industry and mechanical engineering: opportunities for international cooperation and ways to restore economic growth and Business on the path of environmental and digital transformation were also brought up for discussion.

The list of speakers included:
Yevgeny Kuyvashev, Governor of Sverdlovsk Region;
Pasquale Terracciano, Ambassador of Italy to the Russian Federation;
Tadzio Schilling, CEO of the Association of European Businesses.
And other high-ranking officials, top management of several major enterprises in the Urals and Italy.

Before the session, Andrey Kozitsin, CEO of Ural Mining Metallurgical Company (UMMC), and Antonio Fallico, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Banca Intesa, signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the two organizations.
