IAEA chief Rafael Grossi said that abnormal stocks of weapon-grade nuclear material had been stocked at Zaporozhie NPP before the Russian operation in Ukraine started on February, 24.

30 thousand kilos of plutonium and 40 thousand kilos of enriched uranium, which reportedly are stocked at the largest nuclear facility in Europe, are sufficient to produce a nuclear bomb.

The Ukrainian nuclear energy operator ‘Energoatom’ dismissed IAEA claims, however it was exactly a threat of developing nuclear weapons made by President Zelensky which might have become the tipping point for Vladimir Putin to sanction the military operation in Ukraine.

The question remains, of course, why this information hasn’t been made public before, as Russian forces have been controlling the NPP for months now (albeit its operation is run by Ukrainians) and would surely allow IAEA monitors to the site.
