2023-04-15 12:48:02 Ramaphosa Seeks $110 Billion of Investments for Nation in Crisis — Bloomberg

South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa announced plans to attract 2 trillion rand ($110 billion) of investment by 2028, to the clamor of business executives pleading with his government to urgently address the nation’s energy and logistics crises, and rampant crime.

Ramaphosa said he expects to exceed the 1.2 trillion rand of investment he targeted five years ago, as new commitments are announced on Thursday at an annual investment conference he’s hosting.

Luring investors over the next five years will be a challenge, as companies in South Africa struggle with hours of daily blackouts, are stymied by the state-owned logistics firm’s inability to transport everything from coal to citrus fruit, and fend-off criminals stealing equipment and damaging infrastructure. The energy crisis alone is robbing the economy of as much as 899 million rand a day, according to the nation’s central bank.

2023-04-12 18:31:13 Pretoria pylon collapse: 'Big blow' as Ford factory loses 720 vehicles a day

The collapse of seven pylons on the N4 in Pretoria on Sunday night has shut down a Ford plant, causing an output loss of 720 vehicles a day. Other businesses, including other manufacturers, as well as residents in large parts of northern and eastern Pretoria, are still without power following the collapse.

Ford recently invested almost R16 billion in the plant to ramp up production to 200 000 units a year, and Hill says the loss of power is a "big blow". The plant is one of only three around the world to produce the next-generation Ford Ranger, and it also manufactures the Amarok model under contract for Volkswagen.

The study also showed an increase of the Afrikaner population in cities like Pretoria and the East Rand, while showing a decline in cities like Cape Town, Bloemfontein, Port Elizabeth and Durban.

Roughly 67% of Afrikaners already live in ankerdorpe.

The "thirty towns" is in reference to a 2018 study by the Solidariteit trade union in which they noted a natural trend of migration among Boers/Afrikaners to 30 different towns across South Africa.

Anchor towns (or "ankerdorpe") is a term used to describe places that have a high concentration of Afrikaners. Places where they can maintain their language, traditions, and values. These areas typically offer better services, including: municipal, education, health, and cultural. As well as being safer and providing necessary economic opportunities for Afrikaners.

South African intellectual in Budapest: country's water and power system could collapse, following disastrous affirmative action policies; Boer population planning for strategic withdrawal to thirty towns, building own infrastructure; don't have EU passports, so must dig in.

The Iranian Navy’s 86th fleet of warships docked at the Port of Cape Town in South Africa in line with the Islamic Republic's efforts to expand its naval presence in international waters.

Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) on Monday confirmed the arrival late last week of the two ships, the IRIS Dena and IRIS Markan.

The ships were scheduled to dock until Tuesday for “refuelling and replenishing supplies”, TNPA said.

However, local mainstream media has already suggested that the presence of these ships could lead to diplomatic tension with the West.
