Today i got the first of me potatoes in... in a perfect world i would have been able to afford the buckets so i could do the "235lbs in 200sft" but i can't and bitching and moaning ain't going to keep me fed, so i turned to a mate and asked his suggestion on cheap alternatives haha.
After he realised i had a roll of "chicken wire" he called me a retard and suggested potato towers.
I didnt have the actual chicken wire only fencing so with a double lap i made cages and got to work.
I previously had tested this bank with some radish and beetroot experiments to check for salinity and it came up good. This spot will eventually be my peanut growing bank but the sandy loam will need some work.
Potato towers fills that niche.
Once they have grown i kick them over and harvest the potatoes, i spread out the straw, dirt and organic matter over the bank building it up further and then in spring peanuts go in.
The wire cages i move for tomatoes elsewhere to grow up and the bank now set for crop rotation
