This beautiful bird lives mainly in the eastern states of the United States, as well as in southeastern Canada and Mexico. It spreads to the south up to northern Guatemala.

In 1700, it was brought to Bermuda, where it successfully took root, and acclimatized also in the Hawaiian Islands and southern California.

The song of the male is a set of very beautiful sonorous trills, vaguely reminiscent of the song of a nightingale.

The life span of the red cardinal in nature is 10-15 years, in captivity - up to 28 years.
