In Memoriam
I was saddened to hear of the passing of Senator John S. McCain III today at the age of 81. Senator McCain was a personal hero of mine for as long as I can remember, both because of his many years as a public servant and as a Naval Officer and Aviator. McCain retired from the Navy as a Captain in 1981 after 23 years of service. He was a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, Class of 1958. McCain followed his father and grandfather into naval service, both of whom made Flag Rank. McCain survived the USS Forrestal Fire on 29 July 1967 and was shot down on a bombing mission over Hanoi in October of that same year. . Join
