Washington
The North Carolina class battleship, USS Washington (BB-56), is seen above from an interesting perspective. This photograph was taken from the island of the Royal Navy aircraft carrier, HMS Victorious, in July of 1942. The aircraft being refueled on her flight deck are Hawker Sea Hurricanes. Washington served in the Atlantic from January through August of 1942, mostly with the Royal Navy. The main duty undertaken by BB-56 while she was in the Atlantic was convoy escort. Washington and Victorious were taking part in a convoy escort mission in the photo above.
