2021-06-09 18:26:20 As a woman i grew up watching my women relatives spending hours in kitchen and housecleaning and it was defined as their role to take care of things in this way. As a young girl it deeply saddened me that cooking&cleaning which is a basic human skill everyone should learn is considered as a gender role. I promised myself since then that in my family there will not be any power struggles or insensitive roles imposed to each other. Society always tries to define the roles of a woman and how she should carry out these roles. She is expected to do certain things. Due to these expectations, people tend to blame women when things go wrong. And this also includes several men, who consider it not as a life skill but as a duty of women in their lives. My life is not defined by roles imposed by society, there should be mutual understanding and effort between partners. Gender-equality starts from home and to ensure stable, happy life where both genders put collaborative effort to work, support and cooperate together. There should be participation from all sides. Generally, there is a gender gap in doing these tasks and that will continue for a long time. I always wanted my partner to be conscious about issues around this in our society and bring equal participation in all aspects of life because it takes a team-work to build a happy and long-lasting family and gender-imposed roles such as women are responsible for households, men are responsible for making money are immoral and insensitive. How unloving it would be to stop talking to your man just because he is not making enough money and turn your face away because of that? That’s what many women do in our society. How can a person define his/her partner’s value by how much he earns or how much housework he/she does. How a loving and conscious partner can sit and wait until her man starts making more money and blame and turn her face away if he doesn’t or his woman does the houseworks herself and blame her if she doesn’t? Relationships are about being partners in crime putting mutual effort and always caring about each other’s feelings, prioritizing his/her partner not societal beliefs and insensitive gender roles. I hope people one day will learn that love is a team-work. And the reason why i am sharing it all here i don’t want girls to normalize any offending gender roles and I don’t want men to be insecure in front of their women just because they are not earning enough.
