In the case of a smartphone, it looks like a kind of shingles screen. Side faces will be sensitive to pressing - it can be used to accept or reset.
Patent registration is not a guarantee that the product will go to the masses in this form. But now, at least, it will be interesting to watch the announcements of future generations of iPhone.
