Do science headlines like this kind of make you happy?

In the 18 century, King Gustav of Sweden seems to have hated his population enough to basically outlaw coffee. (Out of ancestral revenge, today Sweden is the top coffee consumer per capita on the planet.)

Anyway, the king pulled two twin brothers off death row if one would drink tea every day and the other would drink three pots of coffee daily until death.

Both brothers lived longer than the king and longer than two sets of doctors assigned to monitor them. And the coffee brother lived longer than the tea brother, who lived to be 83.

The moral of the story? Coffee and tea are good for you, probably because of polyphenols. And forcing people to be medical guinea pigs at the threat of their life is mean.

Deciding to quit drinking coffee and tea to improve yourself is exactly the same kind of logic that would have you eating fake meat instead of real food. It’s not science at all.
