2021-10-12 10:41:01 Addis Ababa Revenue Bureau Collects Birr 12 Billion

The Addis Ababa Revenue Bureau collected Birr 12 billion in the first quarter of the current fiscal year. It also announced it will be collecting taxes of Grade A payers until November 09, 2021. According to Mulugeta Tefera, Addis Ababa Revenue Bureau Head, expansion of the task base in Addis Ababa has been one of the major activities carried out in the current fiscal year.

The Bureau plans to collect Birr 48.5 billion in the entire fiscal year. The Bureau has gone more than its plan for the first quarter, collecting Birr 12.26 billion, 5% more on its original plan, Birr 11.59 billion. Compared to the same period last year, the revenue collected during the three months has increased by 40%, Mulugeta specified.

Economists David Card, Joshua Angrist and Guido Imbens won the 2021 Nobel economics prize, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences said on Monday and sees the winners share a sum of 10 million Swedish crowns ($1.14 million).

David Card has made a career of studying unintended experiments to examine economic questions — like whether raising the minimum wage causes people to lose jobs.

2021-10-11 15:16:04 Draft bill obligates banks to secure timely deposit of pension funds

A draft bill presented to the House of Peoples’ Representatives (HPR) sets to impose on banks and related financial institutions a duty to deduct/transfer from accounts of private organizations that collect pension from their employees but fail to deposit the money timely to the Pension Fund.

According to the bill, banks and other financial institutions that are required to implement the decision must apply the order without any precondition and if the institutions fail to do so, they might be obliged to pay the liability.
