2022-05-05 06:30:01 Archbishop William Goh has written a pastoral letter on seeking God's merciful healing and vigilance in protecting our young. He urges us to “pray that the Holy Spirit will guide us to strengthen our Catholic organizations, councils and institutions so that we emerge a safer, credible, stronger and more compassionate Church.”

In the Gospels, Peter was re-discovering the Jesus he had followed for three years when He appeared to the disciples for the third time after His resurrection. The apostles were fishing when Jesus instructed them on where to cast their nets, and they had a great catch. Then Peter recognised Jesus and swam to Him.

As we continue on our faith journey, we, like Peter and the Apostles, are invited to continually ‘recognise’ and discover who Jesus is and what we are called to do - to love Him and others heroically. This invitation is not just at Easter, but is given by Jesus daily for He desires so much for us to love Him and love others in this intense heroic manner. So what will your response be?

Pope John Paul II designated the Second Sunday of Easter as Sunday of the Divine Mercy. It seeks to emphasise what we have celebrated – the Passion, Death and Resurrection of our Lord – as a reminder of God's desire for all people to be saved. However, like Thomas and the disciples, we may also doubt the Lord's power and choose to live in fear, especially when the world is still filled with so much sorrow and suffering.

Let us not live in fear or despair like the disciples, but believe in our risen Lord, who has conquered death and sin. Let God's words to the disciples after His resurrection, "Shalom, Peace be with you," dwell in our hearts today so that we can boldly celebrate the Easter joy in our lives.

Ash Wednesday has arrived! Whether we feel ready or not, this day marks the beginning of the Church’s observance of the Lenten season. We have been given the opportunity to recognise areas in our lives where our hearts have wandered from God and to repent and return to Him.

Let us begin this Lenten season trusting that the Lord will accompany us in the wilderness even when we cannot see the road ahead that leads to new life and the joy that awaits us at Easter.

Lenten Action:
Write a short prayer telling God how you personally hope to benefit from this Lenten season. It need not be more than three lines. Place the prayer somewhere you will see it frequently during Lent.
