2023-04-27 00:07:34 United States and Philippine forces fired on a mock enemy warship in the South China Sea on Wednesday, the latest display of American firepower in Asia as tensions with China continue to rise.

US and Philippine military leaders said Wednesday’s exercise was designed to synchronize combat forces.

Besides Tuesday’s exercise, this year’s Balikatan drills have also featured weaponry battle-tested by Ukrainian troops defending against Russian forces, including handheld Javelin anti-tank missiles and HIMARS rocket systems.

Another key element has been the presence of US’ 3rd Marine Littoral Regiment, a new concept for Marine Corps warfighting designed with a conflict against China in mind, analysts say.

The unit is designed to be highly mobile, conduct strike operations as well as air and missile defense and supporting naval surface warfare, according to Marine Corps releases.

The exercises have also included amphibious operations, maritime security, cyber defense and counterterrorism operations as well as humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, according to a statement from the US Embassy in Manila.

"Canada has an incredibly august history, candidly, more august than the American record in the two World Wars. We all contributed, but Canada was there, full-time, both times.

Unquestionably, the homeland and the whole North American continent will be under threat from China. Not just from nuclear war or cyber scenarios. Spy balloons, hypersonics, naval capacity, and long-range aviation mean that they will be able to strike selectively at things in North America. That would be rationally correlated, potentially, to a limited war strategy. There are military, but also potentially, logistics, food supply, and communications targets. Canada could provide an attractive cheap shot for China that could actually reverberate into the United States without actually being an attack on the United States itself.

I think the Australians would be the model here. They’re not perfect, but the Australians have really reshaped their military for a collective defence role to some extent along the First Island Chain, but also looking at other responsibilities and requirements where they might naturally fit in. I think if Canada moved in that lane, that would be very helpful to everybody and reduce the risk of war. Could it be nuclear-powered submarines that are able to operate? AUKUS? The problem there is when you get to the nitty-gritty of, what can our industrial base handle? We have to live in the realm of reality. If Canada is thinking, where do we pack the most punch relative to the serious threats that we collectively face? That would be enormously welcome."

Argentine "super economic minister" Sergio Massa has publicly released his weekly work schedule, he'll be meeting with provincial governors and local business men.

- The most important point is that on Thursday an economic ministry team led by the economic vice minister and chief of staff will be flying to the IMF to discuss in person (and effectively beg) for a 10 billion dollar relief, it is unlikely for it to be deployed but should it begranted it effectively would last only 2 months at the current rate, a far cry from reaching the election.

- Today Monday he had a meeting with the Chinese firm Ghezouba who will be offloading the second part of a 520 million dollars as a reinforcement to the Central Bank at some point before June 30th.

- On Tuesday he will be meeting with local businessmen, announce 500 million dollars investment (unknown if international investment or paid by the treasury) into the oil industry and communicate 380 million dollars to reinforce the Central Bank from "multiple international organizations" all tied to the United States .

- On Wednesday the dollar savings program will be announced as well as the start of operations in Chinese Yuans for importing companies, which have estimated savings of more than 700 million dollars per month which are sought after locally unlike the Yuans.

In reality their plan is that the economic bomb explodes to the next administration not theirs, with the IMF already declaring that they only want to talk to and negotiate with the next administration it's not looking good for the ministry and thus shows that they're willing to knock on the door of anyone for any cash just to get them to survive until the November elections.

British attempts to evacuate its embassy staff from Sudan at the weekend delayed efforts by other countries to rescue their own citizens, senior German political sources have told.

They allege that British forces landed in Sudan without the permission of the Sudanese army - as other European nations were hoping to airlift citizens to safety.

Germany, among others, had planned to use the airfield north of Khartoum from which subsequent evacuation operations have been conducted.

But, the sources say, the "unannounced British military presence" so angered the Sudanese army that they refused access to the facility.

The UK Ministry of Defence denied that it was responsible for any delay.
