What you need to know about the evil eye and magic

When used in the correct manner, social media can bring about many good. It can be a way to educate others, advise others and benefit others with good. But unfortunately, more and more are using social media in a way which can lead to their own destruction. One of the quickest ways to bring trouble and distress to yourself, your family and things you are blessed with is to share your life on social media. Whether it's your family pictures, your personal news of accomplishments and happiness or any future plans you have ready to set on. Always remember that not everyone on your friends' list or the public wants good for you. Not everyone will be happy for you. Some may envy you whether it was intentionally done or not. Some may want bad to fall upon you to destroy your happiness. So why place yourself in such position to be targeted by the evil eye and magic ?

A sister recently posted her engagement pictures of her and her fiancé. A few weeks later, that same picture was found by a stranger in a graveyard inside a black plastic bag with words such as "separation" and "execution" written all over it.

Another sister during Ramadan posted her beautiful baby in a cartoon box asking who wants to buy this year's Ramadan box as a joke. Many people commented on how beautiful her baby was. The next day, the baby was crushed by a home appliance and passed away.

A sister decided to post a picture of her two cats in a large group. The next day both her cats became very ill.

These are only a few examples of what we hear and see from the evil eye and magic on a daily basis. Not all evil eyes and magic lead to death. But they can certainly destroy lives. Many had their marriages torn apart, achievements crumbled to pieces and blessings taken away from them. Whether done intentionally or not, we can't deny that such incidents are happening and increasing. We all know magic and the evil eye have existed since the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him) , but why is it more widespread today than ever before ?

1. More and more people are sharing their every blessing, every accomplishment, every skill and every future plans to the world. Be humble and share the good news to only those closest to you.
2. Less and less people are diligent to reciting the Quran, Morning and Evening Adhkar (remembrance) and Ruqyah which the Prophet (peace be upon him) advised us to do for protection against and cure of magic and evil eye.
3. Many have forgotten the concept of loving for yourself what you love for others. Many have forgotten that Allah divides His Bounties and blessings to each and every one of His Creation. No one has everything and no one is left with nothing. If you see someone with a blessing you don't have, then know that you too have other blessings that they don't have.
4. More are failing to protect others from being inflicted with the evil eye when they see something they like without asking Allah to bless it for its owner. Never forget to always pray for Allah's blessings on other's people gain, achievements, happiness and blessings.

And for these reasons, such inflictions are growing. We need to hold strong to the Quran and Sunnah and realize that when we stray away from them, we are only harming and being unjust to our own souls. Always seek refuge with Allah from the envier when he envies.

"The evil eye is like an arrow which comes from the soul of the one who envies and the one who puts the evil eye on another towards the one who is envied and on whom the evil eye is put; sometimes it hits him and sometimes it misses. If the target is exposed and unprotected, it will affect him, but if the target is cautious and armed, the arrow will have no effect and may even come back on the one who launched it" [Ibn al Qayyim, Zaad al-Ma’aad].
