Finland  , Olofsborg Fortress

Olofsborg (another name is Olavinlinna) is a 15th—century fortress on a tiny island in the Finnish city of Savonlinna. This is the northernmost medieval fortress that has survived to this day. The island is connected to the mainland by a pontoon bridge.

Initially it belonged to Sweden, then it became part of the Grand Duchy of Finland as part of the Russian Empire, and then became part of independent Finland.

The fortress was founded in 1475 by the Danish knight, royal governor Eric Axelsson Tott. Then it was called Nyslott (then Saknt-Olofsborg) and served to protect the eastern borders of the Danish-Swedish kingdom.

Over time, a settlement was formed around the impregnable fortress, which in 1639 acquired the official status of a city and became known as Savonlinna.

Several historical expositions have been opened in the walls of the fortress, as well as a small collection of Orthodox icons.

Cotswold, United Kingdom

The Cotswold is one of the most picturesque corners and a vivid symbol of rural England — it is these landscapes that are now so popular with landscape masters all over the world.

Small villages with houses, as if from a fairy tale, beautiful gardens, endless meadows, buildings three hundred years ago – all this attracts those who want to see the real England.

The main attraction of these places are rightfully considered gardens and kindergartens, which have already become a symbol of rural England – in landscape design, this area has long been the progenitor of a whole style.

Australia , Frenchman Peak

Frenchman Peak is located in the Cap-Le-Grand National Park 70 kilometers east of the Western Australian southern coastal seaport of Esperance, known as "the most beautiful coast of Australia".

Frenchman Peak was named after the shape of the mountain top, similar to the hat worn by the army in France in the 19th century. In 1870, explorer Alexander Forrest discovered and named it during an expedition in search of a good ranch.

Frenchman Peak is the second highest point of the National Park at an altitude of 262 meters above sea level in the west of the Great Sea Corner National Park. From the top of the mountain there is a view of the National Park and Esperance Bay.

It takes 2 to 3 hours to climb back and forth for about 3 kilometers.

Matsumoto Castle #Japan

Matsumoto Castle is a miracle of the Japanese fortification of the 16th century, which is also called the "Raven Castle" because of the black walls and side towers, similar to the outstretched wings of a bird.

The most interesting part is the main dungeon. From the outside, it seems that the castle has five floors, but in fact the sixth floor is hidden behind a defensive fortification. The castle has a unique architecture for Japan - in addition to the covered passage between the main tower, there are two smaller secret passages connecting the towers.

Ten round wooden pillars, carved with an axe, support the structure. If you look closely, you will notice that the walls are slightly curved – they were deformed due to earthquakes.

An interesting attraction of Matsumoto Castle is the observation wing on the main tower, which offers panoramic views of the surrounding area.

Thailand , Erawan Waterfall

Erawan waterfall is not one, but a whole series of waterfalls at different levels, each of which has walking trails. You can swim in all reservoirs.

Erawan Waterfall, located in the national Park of the same name in Kachananburi province, looks most impressive during the rainy season. Flowing streams form reservoirs of bright colors, shades vary from turquoise to emerald.

On the 3rd level there is a small lake in which there are shoals of fish. They are similar to Garra Rufa, which are widely used for peeling in Southeast Asia, but much larger in size. The length of some individuals reaches 30 cm, and their biting is quite sensitive.

The natural object is named after the many—headed elephant on which Indra moved - the supreme deity, the ruler of the heavenly kingdom in the mythology of Vedism, Buddhism and Hinduism.

Pitigliano #Italy

Pitigliano is one of the most charming towns in Italy with an ancient history dating back to the time of the Etruscans.

The city is built right on a picturesque cliff and rises beautifully above the surroundings, thanks to which Pitigliano has an amazing flavor and is considered the pearl of Tuscany.

Pitigliano is famous for gastronomy and winemaking. Here you can taste the famous wines: white Bianco di Pitigliano and red Morellino di Scansano or Sovana DOC. Among the traditional dishes, ravioli with sheep's milk, ricotta with spinach and sage, lamb in white wine with artichokes stand out. Popular local products are cheeses and sausages.

Pitigliano is conveniently located approximately equidistant from Rome and Florence, and just an hour's drive from the Tyrrhenian Sea coast. Therefore, it is relatively easy to get here.

Brooklyn Bridge #USA

The Brooklyn Bridge is one of the business cards of New York. It is laid over the East River and serves to connect the southern tip of Manhattan with Brooklyn. The width of the bridge reaches 26 m, the height above the water at the highest point is 41 m, and the length is 1828 m.

The Brooklyn Bridge has long been the longest suspension bridge in the world and the first place in the construction of which steel slings were used. The bridge consists of two tiers, the lower one for cars and the upper one for pedestrians and cyclists.

The supporting towers of the bridge are majestic arched structures, well recognizable from numerous films.

Zaanse Schans #Netherlands

Zaanse Schans is an open—air museum in the vicinity of Amsterdam, near the city of Zaandam. There are about 30 real Dutch houses collected all over the country, several museums, a farm and 10 operating mills.

In the village of Zaanse Schans, an unforgettable atmosphere of the Dutch past reigns: the blades of ancient mills creak softly, the smell of freshly baked bread, a shoemaker knocks in the klompov workshop, and the cheese factory is always full of visitors.

Village houses, painted green, resemble pictures, with embroidered curtains, flowers on the windows, wicker furniture in the front gardens. Snow-white geese slowly cross the street, and fat sheep graze in the meadows.

Zaanse Schans even has its own small, almost toy-like, but drawbridge.

Italy , The City of Venice

Venice is a historic city in northern Italy, famous for its canals, gondolas, palazzi, ancient temples and museums. This is the only city of its kind where there are no cars — their role is performed by water transport, and one of the few whose lines are endlessly copied. Venice is more than 1500 years old, and all these centuries it has been shining in the sky of world events.

Since the Middle Ages, Venice has been called the "Queen of the Adriatic". Thanks to wise management, the island town managed to become so influential that it gained independence, many privileges and the honorary title of the Most Serene Republic. The wealth and status of the Venetian nobles can still be appreciated today by visiting one of the palaces-the palazzo.

Venice is not just a city on the water, but a whole commune divided into 6 self—governing districts. The commune includes 118 islands and more than 150 channels.
