Ramadan vocabulary

Ramadan – the ninth month of the Muslim year, during which time Muslims have no food or drink during the day. [Hijriy-qomariy sananing 9-si bo’lib, bu oyda musulmonlar kunduzlari ovqat yemaydilar va ichimlik ichmaydilar.] The origin of the word Ramdan is of Arabic, which is
‘Ar-ramad’ meaning
‘scroching heat’. [Ramazon so’zi Arab tilidagi ‘ar-ramad’ so’zidan olingan bo’lib, ‘juda ham kuchli issiqlik’ degan ma’no beradi.

Pillar – an important principle or belief. Islam is made up of 5 pillars and they are Faith, Prayer, Almsgiving or charity, Fasting and Pilgrimage. [Ustun/arkon. Islom 5 arkon ustiga qurilgandir. Ular Iymon, Namoz, Zakot, Ro’za va Haj.]

Faith – great trust in something. [Iymon, shahodat]

Prayer – the act in which someone prays. [Namoz o’qimoq]

Almsgiving/
charity – when people give money, clothes, food and drinks to the poor. [Zakot]

Fasting – a period during which Muslims avoid eating, drinking and sexual intercourse during day time. [Ro’za. Kunduzi ovqatlanishdan, ichimlik ichishdan va jinsiy aloqadan tiyilish.]
7.
Pilgrimage – a journey to a place which is considered special and holy. [Haj. Muqaddas joyga ziyorat. Musulmonlar har yili Makka va Madinaga boradilar]

Quran – the holy book of Muslims.
9.
Angel – a good spiritual creature in religions. [Farishta]
10.
Jibril – an angel believed to have delivered Quran to Muhammad (sollolohu alayhi vasallam). [Jabroil. Payg’ambar Muhammad sollolohu alayhi vasallamga vahiy, ya’ni Qur’onni olib tushgan farishta]
11.
Prophet – a person who is believed to have a special power which allows them to tell people what God wants. Also: messenger. [Payg’ambar]
12.
Good deeds – very good actions. [Xayrli, yaxshi amallar]
13.
Dawn – the period in the day when light from the Sun begins to appear in the sky. In Arabic it is Fajr. [Subh, tong]
14.
Dusk – the time before night when it is not yet dark. In Arabic it is Vaqtal G’urub. Mag’rib. [Tundan avvalgi, quyosh botishidan so’nggi vaqt.]
15.
Break the fast – when Muslims stop fasting and start eating and drinking. [Og’iz ochmoq]
16.
Date – the sweet fruit of various types of palm tree. [Hurmo]
