2022-06-21 09:44:19 Elon Musk Says He's Still Buying Dogecoin — and Vows to 'Keep Supporting' It.

Elon Musk has declared he will "keep supporting Dogecoin" despite the memecoin's value plunging substantially in the past year — and revealed that he's continuing to buy the cryptocurrency.

The billionaire's posts may have been related to a recent lawsuit that sues him, as well as Tesla and SpaceX, for a whopping $258 billion.

A disgruntled investor alleges Musk played an instrumental role in running a "Dogecoin pyramid scheme" — and contributed to DOGE's downfall by calling it a "hustle" on Saturday Night Live.

That episode aired on May 8, 2021 — the same day that Dogecoin hit a new all-time high of $0.7376 as a manic 18,000% rally came to an end.

At the time of writing, DOGE's current price of $0.06174 marks a 90% drawdown from this peak.

Bitcoin plunged through several closely watched price levels to the lowest since late 2020 as evidence of deepening stress within the crypto industry keeps piling up against a backdrop of monetary tightening. 

The largest digital token by market value tumbled as much as 15% to $17,599 on Saturday, marking a record-breaking 12th consecutive daily decline according to Bloomberg data. It’s still only the biggest drop since Monday. The currency recovered some of those losses and was trading at $19,075 as of 8:30 a.m. in Singapore Sunday.

Ether fell as much as 19% to $881, the lowest since January 2021, before climbing 11% to $1,005 on Sunday morning in Singapore. The two bellwethers of the crypto market are both down more than 70% from all-time highs set in early November.
