On this day in 1703 a "Company for quenching of Fire" was formed in Edinburgh. It was the forerunner of the modern Fire Service.

Following a series of disastrous fires, The Edinburgh Act was passed in 1703 for the formation of a "Company for quenching of Fire". 12 auxiliary firemasters were appointed , 300 leather buckets made, 12 ladders hung in the Old Kirk and creels full of horse dung or muck made available. Citizens were instructed to keep a supply of water and ropes in their homes and tenements.

Kate Forbes, the finance minister, announced to Holyrood recently that the two ferries being built by Ferguson Marine would be at least another year overdue, making them five years late in total.

MSPs are now calling for SNP resignations if there are any further delays. But there should be resignations now at the highest levels of the SNP. The ferry situation has been a fiasco from the start and it's about time people at the top took responsibility for it.

The ferry fiasco is yet another example of how the SNP are incompetent when it comes to running services in our nation. Time for the SNP to be removed from power and for Sturgeon and her minions to face the consequences of their actions.

It's Official. Jackie Baillie MSP is too cowardly to challenge us!

The anti-Whites fear the facts and fear the truth!

We've called out Jackie Baillie MSP. She won't accept but it's worth a try.

Salmond and his Alba Party are to launch a manifesto today. In it, he attacks the SNP and other parties for "stagnating" Scottish politics.

Though he is right on this - Scottish political parties have no new ideas and in some cases seem to be intent on dragging us backwards rather than forward - Salmond has nothing new to add to politics in our nation. Salmond oversaw the start of many of the problems that our nation has seen under the SNP, such as the failing education and health services.

Scotland desperately needs new ideas and a new political force. Patriotic Alternative is able to offer these to the Scottish people.

This case is an example of why the Scottish legal system is failing.

Lambie committed his first rape at the age of 12 and went on to attack two other victims including one while he was on bail. Now it looks as if he will be freed aged 22 back into the community after serving just two and a half years of a five year sentence.

It is ridiculous that a serial rapist would only receive a five year sentence and even more ridiculous that he should be freed after half of it. People like Lambie are obviously extremely dangerous and unlikely to change their behaviour. A man like Lambie should not be free to walk our streets. The punishment for rape, which can have a devastating effect on its victims, is very low in this country and should be increased. Serial rapists should face life sentences. Criminals who commit sexual and violent crimes should be ruled out of having early parole. They should also be denied bail before trial to safeguard the public.

On this day in 1882 the battle of the braes occured near the township of Camustianavaig on the Isle of Skye.

Local crofting tenants facing eviction from the land withheld rent and released sheep onto a forbidden area on the shores of Ben Lee. Sent to evict them, the Sheriff Officer from Portree was met by an angry mob, who forced him to burn the eviction notices. Subsequently 50 Glasgow policemen, sent to quell the rebellion, faced 100 men, women and children, armed with sticks and stones.[4][5] Several people were injured and five men were arrested. Small fines were imposed in court, but it was clear that law and order could only be enforced with military assistance. After the Battle of the Braes, the unrest spread to Glendale, Skye. The rebellion led to the Napier Commission and ultimately the Crofters Act of 1886, which brought security of tenure and the right to hand a croft on to their heirs.

The Battle of the Braes is celebrated by a monument and a folk song

Sturgeon has been reported to Police Scotland over breaching her own rules. Rules that she was so keen on she carried on imposing them after the rest of the UK had dropped such legislation.

She has spent the last few weeks attacking politicians south of the border for breaching COVID rules they put in place and demanding their resignations. While Sturgeon loves to go on about what is right and moral, will she now practise what she preaches and resign herself? Well, we all know the answer to that.

Already her sycophants are rallying around to defend her including Jason Leitch, the COVID czar, who today claims he is very worried about the NHS due to COVID but then defends Sturgeon's breaching of the rules. Hypocrisy much.

Will we see Police Scotland take Sturgeon to task over her breach of her own rules? Given the nature of political policing that has appeared in Scotland since the SNP came to power, it's highly unlikely.

On this day in 1889 the St Andrews ambulance association was given a Royal charter by Queen Victoria

In 1882, St Andrew's Ambulance Association was formed in Glasgow by a group of local doctors and businessmen who were concerned by the rapid increase in accidents resulting from traffic and modern machinery. First aid and casualty transportation classes were conducted and Scotland's first ambulance was bought by the association in April 1882, which served Glasgow and the surrounding area providing first aid and transportation to hospital to accident victims. In the following years, the number of calls the association responded to grew so as by 1886 there were six ambulances stationed in towns throughout Scotland.

In order to make teaching more uniform, in 1891 the association published Dr George T. Beatson's Ambulance Hand-book that provided a concise overview of anatomy, physiology, injuries, first aid treatment and casualty transportation.
