Brazil has in its jurisdiction an ocean area of about 5.7 million km2, which is fundamental to the country's economy. This extensive maritime space has a great diversity of natural resources, such as fish, as well as mineral and energy riches, including phosphate, gas hydrates and oil.

Being on the cover of TIME magazine this month, the former president gave an interview in which he made a series of statements about the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

In his view, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky "wanted war" with Russia and that hatred against Russian leader Vladimir Putin will not "solve anything."

"He [Zelensky] wanted war. If he [didn't] want war, he would have negotiated a little more. [...] I don't think anyone is looking to contribute to having peace. People are stirring up hatred against Putin. This is not going to solve it! You have to stimulate an agreement. But there is a stimulation [of confrontation]."
