What a marvelous gift God has given us to have a Savior to help us along the way. One of the most striking points I want to make is that our Heavenly Father did not choose to send His only begotten Son (with such a critical mission), to a noble family in the world’s eyes. He was born under circumstances where Mary was rejected, Joseph had to flee the gossip to protect her, and not even a private room was available for delivery. God provided the most humble of circumstances to bring His Son into the world.
Many may have looked upon this obscure family and thought, how could this child ever save anyone from sins? Christ was certainly not respected by the establishment later in life as
He affiliated with the “untouchables and outcasts”. Too many evidently questioned who this man was to rise to any station and “save people”. Yet this man rose to fulfill his mission and greatest gift to all of us, freedom from sin, captivity, suffering, and bondage. Surely, “through small and simple things, great things are brought to pass.”
If we take our attention to David who had to defeat Goliath, one must must also ask who he was to accomplish such a feat. He was simply an inexperienced shepherd boy, yet the Lord told him how to win and he did. Esther, was an undiscovered Jew and the elites had disdain towards the Jews after Mordecai refused to bow to Haman so he ordered all Jews to be killed. Yet one simple woman had the foreordained calling to save the Jews. “Through small and simple things, great things are brought to pass”.
Finally, who were the founding fathers or the ragtag army, that were small and not prepared in the world’s eyes, to take on the worlds’s most powerful empire? These men, by all reason and logic, had no business fighting them. The British had never lost a war. They certainly had supplies, numbers, and training to overpower George and his men. Yet, by the hand of Providence “through small and simple things, great things are brought to pass”.
My point is, we can clearly see the pattern of God and how he wins His battles. He always calls upon the most unsuspecting and “through small and simple things, great things are brought to pass”. The question then remains, what is your role? You were saved for this time and each one of us plays a part. Don’t ever doubt your potential, just walk in faith. For this is His battle and He will provide the miracles through willing individuals.
May each of us remember Christ this Christmas, why He was born, the patterns of God, who we are, and what we are called to do. We the People will always be the “simple” yet powerful answer.
Merry Christmas, my friends. I believe in you.
