Khadi & Village Industries Commission (KVIC), under the Ministry of MSME, has launched two new products-
Khadi babywear and
handmade paper ‘Use and Throw’ Slippers
Khadi handmade paper ‘Use and Throw’ Slippers have been developed by Khadi & Village Industries (KVI) with the objective of supporting handmade paper industry, strengthening traditional art and creating sustainable employment for artisans.
These slippers use thick handmade paper board and soft handmade paper as raw material and hence creates a new line of product which will not only increase the consumption of handmade paper but will also create sustainable employment for handmade paper industry artisans.       
One handmade paper ‘Use and Throw’ Slippers fabrication unit of the capacity of 500 pairs per day employs 20 persons per day for cutting, pasting, packaging and logistics.  
Manufacturing of 500 handmade paper ‘Use and Throw’ Slippers require 225 sheets of handmade paper.
This further creates employment for 9 persons per day in producing handmade paper industry.

Salient features of Khadi Babywear:-
KVIC has introduced Babywear for the first time for the age group of new-born and upto 2 years.
Khadi babywear is made of high quality hand-spun and hand-woven Khadi Cotton fabric.
The fabric is eco-friendly and made using natural fibres to suit the sensitive skin of new born babies.
The fabric is free from any chemical treatment and harmful dyes to prevent babies from any skin irritation.
Fabric used in Khadi babywear is breathable and skin friendly.
The idea behind introducing babywear is to further diversify the product range for more consumption of Khadi fabric and ultimately creating more income for Khadi Artisans.


Salient features of Handmade Paper ‘Use and Throw’ Slippers:-
Khadi handmade paper ‘Use and Throw’ Slippers have been developed for the first time in the country.
Khadi handmade paper ‘Use and Throw’ Slippers are made of fine-textured handmade paper and are 100% eco-friendly and cost-effective.
Suitable for travel and indoor usage like in homes, hotels, hospitals, places of worship, laboratories, etc.
Hygienic from pandemic point of view.
Available in two types- flip flop and slip-on.

2021-08-12 11:19:14 INDIGENOUS AIRCRAFT CARRIER (IAC(P71)) ‘VIKRANT’ RETURNS AFTER SUCCESSFUL MAIDEN SEA VOYAGE

Indigenous Aircraft Carrier (IAC) 1 named INS Vikrant, started sea trials on 4th August 2021 (one of the last phases of trials).
It is likely to be commissioned in 2022. At present, India has only one aircraft carrier, the Russian-origin INS Vikramaditya.

The vessel, to be named Vikrant after the decommissioned maiden carrier of the Navy.
India acquired the Vikrant from the United Kingdom in 1961, and the carrier played a stellar role in the 1971 war with Pakistan that led to the birth of Bangladesh.
Indigenous Aircraft Carrier (IAC) ‘Vikrant’ designed by Indian Navy's Directorate of Naval Design(DND) is being built at Cochin Shipyard Limited(CSL), a Public Sector Shipyard under Ministry of Shipping(MoS)
IAC is a leading example of the nation’s quest for “Atma Nirbhar Bharat” and Indian Navy’s “Make in India” initiative, with more than 76% indigenous content.
The Indigenous Aircraft Carrier is 262 m long, 62 m at the widest part and height of 59 m including the superstructure.
There are 14 decks in all, including five in the superstructure.
The ship has over 2,300 compartments, designed for a crew of around 1700 people, having gender-sensitiveaccommodation spaces for women officers.
The ship with high degree of automation for machinery operation, ship navigation and survivability, has been designed to accommodate an assortment of fixed wing and rotary aircraft.

2021-08-12 11:18:22 Dr. Virendra Kumar launches ‘PM-DAKSH’ Portal and ‘PM-DAKSH’ Mobile App

It is developed by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, in collaboration with NeGD
To make the skill development schemes accessible to the target groups
Through these portal and app the youth of the target groups will now be able to avail the benefits of skill development training programmes more easily.
Pradhan Mantri Dakshta Aur Kushalta Sampann Hitgrahi (PM-DAKSH) Yojana is being implemented by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment from the year 2020-21.  
Under this Yojana, eligible target group are being provided skill development training programmes on
(i) Up-skilling/Re-skilling
(ii) Short Term Training Programme
(iii) Long Term Training Programme and
(iv) Entrepreneurship Development Program (EDP).
These training programs are being implemented through Government Training Institutes, Sector Skill Councils constituted by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and other credible institutions.
Features of this portal are as follows:
Availability of all information related to skill development at one place for Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes and Safai Karamcharis.
Facility to register for the training institute and program of their interest.
Facility to upload desired documents related to personal information.
Facility to register the attendance of the trainees through face and eye scanning during the training period.
Monitoring facility through photo and video clip during training etc.

2021-08-12 11:18:22 National Programme on Advanced Chemistry Cell Battery Storage

It is under the Ministry of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises.
The plan is to set up 50 gigawatt hour (GWh) manufacturing capacity for ACC batteries by attracting investments totaling Rs. 45,000 crore.
Requires each selected ACC battery Storage manufacturer to set-up an ACC manufacturing facility of minimum 5 GWh capacity, achieve a domestic value addition of at least 25% and incur the mandatory investment Rs.225 crore /GWh within 2 Years.
Furthermore, the beneficiary firms need to ensure a minimum 60% domestic value addition at the Project level within five years.
The incentive will be disbursed over a period of five years. It will be paid out on the basis of sales, energy efficiency, battery life cycle, and localization levels.
Benefits
Facilitate demand creation for battery storage in India.
Facilitate Make-in-India and Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Facilitate demand for Electric Vehicles (EVs), which are proven to be significantly less polluting.
A key contributing factor to reduce India's GreenHouse Gas (GHG) emissions.
Import substitution of around Rs. 20,000 crore every year.
Impetus to Research & Development to achieve higher specific energy density and cycles in ACC.
Promote newer and niche cell technologies.

Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC):
ACCs are the new generation of advanced storage technologies that can store electric energy either as electrochemical or as chemical energy and convert it back to electric energy as and when required.
Such battery storages will cater not only to electric vehicles but also to the consumer electronics industry and electricity grids
