“My son (now 6) had what was considered “normal” reactions to his 12 and 18 month vaccines.
He had an eczema rash develop but was told it was unrelated, the fever and being unsettled was normal, give him Panadol.
After his 12 months he was back to himself within 2 weeks but we were concerned going to his 18 month ones. At our appointment I was made to feel like a paranoid mother.
He was my first child and I was only 20 so I went against my gut, I believed doctors and nurses knew what was best for my kid more than I did.
We had the worst week and a bit of him being unsettled, he was not comfortable or happy, the eczema rash appeared again. 10 days after his vaccine we were eating dinner and I saw his eyes glaze over and his body slumped.
He regressed back to about 6 months of age immediately, stopped talking, stopped interacting, kicking and catching.
When we saw our GP I was told he must be autistic and the vaccine was ignored. We went to the Paediatrician and he told us it’s convenient timing, there’s a form of Autism that appears at 18 months and a global development delay (even though he had reach all his milestone and was developing healthy) it couldn’t of been the vaccine.
Neither listened to the fact that he struggled after both vaccines, or the very physical reaction I saw, the only answer is Autism. I often wonder how many children have been misdiagnosed, their parents ignored.
I work in special education and I hear so many stories of one day their children just switched off, and situations similar to ours.
Watching my son struggle day to day breaks my heart. I still fight for him, seeing naturopaths, drs, getting blood tests, doing what I can but it’s no easy because there is very little help out there.”
