The highest peak in Iran and Middle East,and the highest Volcano in Asia with an elevation of 5609.2 meters above sea level.
It's in the Alborz mountain range,south of Caspian sea and about 66 km Northeast of Iran's capital,Tehran.
Probably because of it's size and mesmerizing view,it has a special place in Persian mythology and folklore.
For example : in Shahnameh (book of kings) by Ferdowsi,a tyrant named Zahhāk chained in a cave somewhere in Mount Damavand by Kāveh and Fereydun; or in another story,Arash the Archer stand on Damavand's summit and fire his arrow to mark Iranian borders; and there is another poem specifically for the mountain itself,by Mohammad Taghi Bahar.
